The Big Reveal

Hello Everyone,

This quilt was always in the back of my mind, on the sketchbook, just waiting to come alive.  It practically designed itself while I held the mechanical pencil first and then an applique needle.

This scarecrow isn't going to scare anything away.  He's so friendly and invites the crows to his farm.  His outfit still reminds me of an old smoking jacket....not one of my better ideas!

The fabric for the top of the acorn was perfect from the very beginning.

The sunflower looks like it's blowing in the breeze.

The geese are circling the farm just waiting to fly south.

I would like to have this basket of goodies on my table at Thanksgiving.

I put the two strips on the top section for cross-hatching when I put this on the long arm.

The barn is my favorite block of the whole quilt.  Putting the pumpkin advertisement on the side was Mr. Joe's idea.  I think he's a keeper and I listen to his suggestions......sometimes.

My mother gave me a blue bird of happiness a long time ago.  It sits happily here in the basket of flowers.

Plaids, plaids and more plaids.  I could name this quilt The Plaid Farm.

There you have it......my Harvest of Hope.  Hope for the future while reflecting on the past.  As we go about our days and weeks, we are all harvesting hope in our lives by planting seeds of happiness, giving smiles along the way, a hug here and there, and spreading encouragement to help each other grow and prosper.

You haven't seen the last of this quilt.  Next week I'll be posting pictures of the quilting process.  I need to have this completely finished by August 15th for the Preview Party for In Between Stitches. I'll quilt by day and write the pattern directions by moonlight so you can make a Harvest of Hope.

Soon,
Lynn

  1. Perfection...right down to Mr Scarecrows smoking jacket...is his first name Joe? I failed at my challenge to get some srirches into CC before you revealed...but I did get some stitches into a Hocuspocusville block last night with my witchy feeties up! I guess we're all ready for cooler temps and a colorful autumn!

  3. Spectacular! I love Harvest of Hope!

The scarecrow's coat looks like grandma's wool housecoat. Rather cozy. I like it.

  5. Stunning, Lynn!!!!! I love everything about this quilt!!! The barn is fantastic. I love the roof that is my favorite BUT Mr. Scarecrow is my favorite!!! Probably because of his "smoking jacket"!!! Seriously, I will refer to him as "Hef" from now on!! Once your quilt goes on tour, I wouldn't be surprised if you start finding buxom blondes congregating around it!! :-)
    Amazing work!!!

  7. Well you just made my day, Lynn! Only you would have such a classy scarecrow with a smoking jacket! Isn't it great when our hubbies lend us some of their great ideas? Now I sit with baited breath and wait for the quilting. I hope you have a full moon for your pattern writing!
    Cheers!

  9. Another beautiful creation, Lynn! Your selection of fabric to "paint" each part of your quilt is perfect! This pattern will fly off the shelves! This may even get me motivated to try applique.
