Patchwork Math Class Was In Session

Hello Everyone,

 

I was in San Rafael last Saturday for a Patchwork Math workshop for the Mt. Tam Quilt Guild.  The group was so nice!  We had a great day!

 

 

This pictures doesn't due justice to the beautiful views outside.  There was also a lot of beauty on the inside of the classroom too!

 

Gail and I had the design wall up against a window, which made the blocks appear to be stained glass.  This was perfect, since we were in a church.

We waited for the roads to be plowed, and drove back to the cabin on Sunday.  The 3' berm was like cement.  The lump in the driveway is another car which we should have put in the garage before we left! 

The snow blower and Mr. Joe made quick work of the driveway, and we got the car tucked into the garage.

My job is shoveling our way down to the cabin.  Notice I say down, since we are located on a hill.  The sun was starting to set while we worked and the temperatures dropped.  We got the fire going, and we were snug as two bugs in a rug in no time at all.

Today I'm off to Quail's Nest Quilting Company in Sonora to teach Grammy Squares.  I'm teaching it again on the 21st for those on the waiting list.  I always make at least one block before a class just as a refresher for my brain.  The blocks are so addictive, I couldn't make just one!  If I teach this class often enough, I'll have enough blocks for a whole new quilt!

Country Sampler is Quilted

Hello Everyone,

 

I spent the last two days in the machine quilting room working on this quilt.  There is something to be said for making smaller quilts.  It only took me about 12 hours to quilt this one instead of my usual 40 hours.

 



I've been dragging it around as a flimsy to all of my patchwork math workshops for the past three years!  The quilt contains the components that are in my Patchwork Math book, available HERE on Etsy.

Better late than never to quilt it.  Now I have to work on the binding and write the pattern.  My favorite part about this quilt is the lattice sashing.  The lattice sashing is easily made, any size by changing the size of the component.

I'll be teaching this quilt on the Quilt Cruise to Alaska in July.....which will be here before you know it!  I have just a couple openings in this class, and only one opening in my second class, a mystery quilt.  (Because it's still a mystery to me!)  Actually my second class for the return journey is going to reinforce all of the Patchwork Math skills.  The phrase Patchwork Math on steroids is rattling around in my brain.  It is going to be a fun cruise.

 

My mystery quilt is going to contain several Eagle's Nest blocks.  It's definitely going to have an Alaskan theme.

Now to get back to the Country Sampler quilt.  This is going to be a true "learning the techniques" quilt.  The first block focuses on Half-Square Triangles, and how to make them 8 at a time.  This is the final layout.

Today I'm going to focus on the prep work for my Patchwork Math workshop in San Rafael for the Mt. Tam Quilt Guild.  This is a whole new market for me on the other side of the San Francisco Bay Area. It is always a pleasure to meet new quilters and share ideas and knowledge.

Where to Begin?

Hello Everyone,

 

I'm starting the quilt show today with Barbara's colorful umbrellas.......we are going to need them for the rest of the week.

 

 

 I had two Sew'n Wild Oaks groups this week at In Between Stitches, so there's a lot to show you.  Kathy's Halloween quilt is an heirloom.

 

This background fabric is perfect!

Barbara made the table runner with all of the fabrics you see behind it.

Melody made three quilts for three siblings who lost their home in the Santa Rosa fire last fall.  Quilters are so generous and giving of their time and talents.

Karen finished her Scrappy Leaves!!  This was absolutely stunning.

Doris is making baby quilts for a special little one.

This is the start of something from Isabelle.  Cut, cut, sew, sew.

Kristi clowning around.  She keeps us in stitches!

I did a little foundation pieced demonstration, so a few of the girls made some little 4" blocks.

 

Gail is beginning her Country Sunshine quilt.  Just deciding on what goes where is a big decision on her block layout sheet.

 

Kristi took a collage quilt class a In Between Stitches.  So cute!

Such a busy week.  We left the cabin on Sunday so we could watch the little boys play flag football.  Our grandson Jess, is handing the ball off to grandson Kade.  Team Wilder in action!

 

Then on Tuesday, we were able to watch the boys again in a baseball, pre-season game.  Kade is the pitcher, and cousin Jess is the catcher.  These Wilder boys are going to be a force to be reckoned with as they grow into men. 

I'm teaching a Patchwork Math workshop on the other side of the bay for the Mt. Tam guild on Saturday.  We decided to just stay put in Livermore and not attempt to go back to the cabin on Wednesday.  The biggest snow storm of the season is beginning NOW.  We knew if we were up at the cabin, there is no way we could have gotten out Friday, and get to the workshop in time on Saturday. Three to four feet of snow is predicted for our area.  We will attempt to get back to the mountains on Sunday......after the last flag football game of the season!  Something tells me we will be bonding with the snow shovel and snow blower!

I finally updated by schedule for the year at the top of my blog.  I told myself I was going to cut back this year.....what happened?
