Gentry's Mill Month #5 Tutorial

 Hello Everyone, 

I'm a couple of days late posting the tutorial for Gentry's Mill for this block. You can download the tutorial HERE from Google Drive. 

I put the files in Google Drive to make them easier for you to print. 

Here are some things to remember:

1. Starch your fabrics first

2. Use Aurifil 50wt thread

3. Cut accurately

4. Check to make sure you have an accurate 1/4" seam

5. Follow the pressing directions

6. This is not a race

You will be finished with the blocks soon and then you can move on to the sashing.

I'm still cutting kits and writing the pattern for Cozy Country Christmas. I have three more star blocks to make.  

Marcus Fabrics is sending me the material to make a version using Franklin House fabrics.  Not sure when I will get around to making this one.....which I truly LOVE! It is so elegant and would look so good on display in the cabin for the entire Winter. 

So many fun things to make and so little time.....sigh.

We still have a lot of summer people here in the mountains, but my community isn't as impacted today as it was over the weekend. I do feel fortunate to live in an area where so many people like to vacation.  I feel very privileged to live here year-round.

Gentry's Mill Month #4 Tutorial

 Hello Everyone,

I just posted the tutorial for Month #4 in Google Docs.  You can download and print the tutorial HERE.

My Gentry's Mill quilt has been traveling around the country and it's down at the post office waiting to be picked up and return home.

The quilt has been gone forever!

I can't believe I quilted around every cameo on the borders.

On another note, we attended our grandson's high school graduation last Friday in Livermore.  In the blink of an eye, Jess traveled from pre-school graduation........

.....to High School graduation.  He once had an angelic glow, but while that has faded, his warmth and kindness remain. He's still an incredible kid/young man and is a wonderful human, now with a playful, mischievous streak that keeps the whole family on their toes.  

This August, he’s heading to Feather River Junior College, where he plans to earn a degree in Ag Mechanics, followed by a degree in Ranch Management. With his passion for welding, he’s spending the summer working as a welder, gaining valuable hands-on experience. He also has his sights set on joining the college’s rodeo team. His hard work and dedication have earned him two scholarships—one from the Livermore Rodeo Association and another from the Alameda County Farm Bureau. Exciting times ahead!

His mom—our daughter-in-law—put together an incredible slideshow for the graduation party on Saturday. Kicking things off with the first song "Mama Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys" set the perfect tone—what a fun and fitting choice!  Livermore High is known as 'Cowboy Nation'. 

At just three years old, he earned his first—and only—belt buckle as the fastest stick pony rider in the West. All these years later, he still wears it proudly, and now, it finally fits.

The college is small, and the dorms filled up in just two days. Luckily, there's an RV park half a mile from campus, so he bought a trailer and will be moving it there soon. Whether or not he knows how to cook is still up for debate, but one thing's for sure—life is about to get interesting!

We couldn't be prouder of him and are excited to see the incredible journey life has in store for him.

Gentry's Mill Tutorial Month #3

 Hello Everyone,

I'm a couple of days late in posting.....sorry.....the retreat took high priority.  The tutorial for Month #3 is now available for download HERE.

This is an attractive and easy block to make, and you will zip right through making four of them.

Make sure you starch your fabrics first, as you will be cutting the center section on the bias.  I know, it's a cardinal no-no, but you do what you have to do to make the block look good.

I'm knee deep in the design of a new fabric line.  If all goes well, it should be rolled out to the Marcus sales staff in the Fall of 2025.  I really have to get my act together and totally focus on the designs for the fabric and the quilt.  There is a lot of back and forth between the graphic artists at Marcus and me to make sure the new line is the bees knees or the cat's pajamas.  No, there aren't any insects or cats in my next design!  How did those phrases every get started? 

Two large boxes and 14 bolts of fabric were delivered to the cabin yesterday.  I have an idea for a new design using Gentry's Mill fabrics. I want to showcase the large floral.  I think it is going to be an easy and classic design.

Gentry's Mill Tutorial

 Hello Everyone,

The tutorial for month #2 of Gentry's Mill is now posted so you can download it HERE. 

This block is very similar to block #1. The block is the same, the fabrics are different.

I've been working on a lot of tutorials over the past week.  My granddaughter drove up from the Los Angeles area and we met up at our home in Livermore so she could film the tutorials for Bridle Path for The Quilt Show.  Our eldest son and his family live in the house now. 

We set up in the dining room as it has the best lighting for filming.  The only problem was Mazey likes to bark when the mailman arrives, so you can hear her in the background.  She just wanted to have her voice heard in the video.

My granddaughter is going to make a 'blooper' video if she has the time.  I was demonstrating a technique of making double flying geese with my prepared components, and I made one of them incorrectly!  I was flummoxed for a few seconds, maybe 30 seconds too long, and had to re-do the video after lunch.  We decided to show it so you can see that even this so-called professional can make mistakes.  

I mentioned before that our son and his family live in our Livermore home.  We have a bedroom there, but we share a bath with our 17-year-old grandson.  I forgot to take my shampoo and ended up using my grandson's Old Spice Swagger shampoo.  Maybe that's why I screwed up one of the tutorials.....I was feeling too cocky from breathing in the 'Swagger' shampoo!

On that note, I'll sign off for now.

Gentry's Mill Month #1 Tutorial

 Hello Everyone,

For those of you making Gentry's Mill or thinking about signing up for the BOM program, I posted my first tutorial which you can read and download from Google Docs HERE.  

The tutorial covers the first month of the program where you make four blocks.

The blocks are very doable which I think you will see that in the tutorial.  I believe quilters can do anything if you take your time.  Here is a list of my keys to quilting success:

1. Starch your fabrics first

2. Use Aurifil 50wt thread

3. Cut accurately

4. Check to make sure you have an accurate 1/4" seam

5. Follow the pressing directions

6. This is not a race

The tutorial also includes links to my FREE videos on The Quilt Show to show you how to make Flying Geese and Half-Square Triangles.  You can watch them again and again to reinforce the technique.

I posted the tutorial to Google Maps because it is much easier for you to print the tutorial out for your reference.
