A Trip to the "Mid-Century" Flea Market

Hello Everyone,

 

Yesterday was our annual trip to the Flea Market at the Alameda Pointe Antiques Faire on the island of Alameda in San Francisco Bay.  From vintage to industrial.....they have it.

 

There are over 800 vendors.  It's exhausting!  We walked for miles....and miles.....and miles.

There are many booths with vintage linens.

Vintage quilts.

Vintage quilt blocks.

 

Who would want to buy old toilet floats?

We lost track of how many mannequins we saw for sale.

This was a cute booth and the old Singer machine was in good shape.  I saw lots of Featherweights too.

I loved this light made out of chicken feeders and I thought it would look great at the cabin.  But $600.00!!!! Mr. Joe can make one for me as soon as we find all the parts and pieces.  Now we are on the hunt for chicken feeders.  We already have the horse apparatus.  Hey Nancy, from Nancie Anne Quilts in Idaho, do have any chicken feeders in your barn that you would like to sell?  Does anyone out there in blogland have chicken feeders like these?

I thought the quilts were rather pricey.

From stop lights to quilts to bird feeders, this booth had it all.

We could see the fog and the skyline of San Francisco while we walked.

I should have bought this sign and put it over the door to my sewing room.

I overheard the words "mid-century" over and over again.  Didn't those sweet, little, trendy girlie girls know that I was born in the Mid-Century!  I'm a walking billboard flashing the words mid-century, mid-century.   I felt like saying, "Honey, come on over to my house if you want to see mid-century!"

What did I buy you're wondering?  Not a thing except for a sandwich.  I think the bread was made in the mid-century!

For the Love of Baskets Class is in Session

 

Hello Everyone,

 

The baskets of good holiday wishes for the 4th of July are brought to you by the girls in my For the Love of Baskets class at In Between Stitches.

 

Lorraine set up her little Featherweight and made her little cutie from the kit I put together for the quilt.

 

Chris' husband surprised her and bought the kit prior to the class. What a guy!  Happy Anniversary you two lovebirds!

Here's her block, on the pattern layout sheet.....just waiting to be stitched.

Kaye is using fabrics from her stash and what a wonderful stash it is!  Kaye and I first met at the shop over five years ago while I was drooling over her stash.  She adds little bits to her stash and makes beautiful quilts.

Sylvia bought the kit and dug right in.  She is relatively new to quilting and made these two little gems.  She's all ready to set up a quilting day with my sister Gail, and the two of them are going to have baskets-o-plenty when they get together.

Gail, my pattern tester, is having a great time making her beautiful blocks from her stash.  I like the addition of the light lavender background.  I think it is going to make her quilt sparkle.

Gail made copies of the block layout sheet so she's laying out four sets of blocks at a time.  Once you get to this point, the blocks just fly together.

The girls are making their half-square triangles 4 at a time using my tutorial located HERE under the virtual classroom tab. They were beginning with a 4" block not an 8" block that I used in the tutorial.

It's Official

Hello Everyone,

 

It's finally official and I can let the cat out of the bag. I'll be teaching my patchwork math for quilting components class at Quilting in the Garden on Wednesday, September 25th! For details click HERE.

 

 

 

It's even more exciting that Sue Abrey (Quilt Sue) is coming from England and Sue will be teaching Naughts and Crosses on Thursday, September 26th from her Pick Four book!  For details click HERE. What could be more exciting than that you ask?  Well, Sue is going to be staying with me for her first visit to California! 

 



 

Sue and I have become blogging buddies over the past few years and now we finally get to meet. Mr. Joe and I will have the pleasure to wine and dine her, show off our beautiful state, and really get to know each other.  We'll spend some time at the cabin and the bears promised to stay away during her visit.

 

We will be together at Alden Lane Nursery on Wednesday and Thursday in each others class. We would love to meet many of you during our classes and at the quilt show on Saturday & Sunday at the In Between Stitches booth.  I have a strong feeling Sue's sense of humor or (humour) is going to keep us in stitches!  This is a "twofer week"......you can take my class one day and Sue's the next.  We plan on having a great time and I know you will too at Quilting in the Garden.
