Let the eating......no, no quilting begin

Hello Everyone,

 

The room is ready, the pincushions are ready, now I'm just waiting for the quilters to trickle in.....

 

.....and here they come!  Almost everyone arrived between 3-5 and set up their machines. Then we left the retreat at Snowflake Lodge and went down the street to our cabin to eat.

My friend Judy and I toasted the beginning of the retreat.

 



Jeanne and Patti have a sense of humor with their matching shirts......"don't shoot me I'm a quilter" in camouflage lettering. It is hunting season up here in the mountains, and the motel is full of hunters and quilters.

We started out with tons of appetizers thanks to Patti and Jeanne.  This is the most amount of people I've ever had in the cabin at the same time.....22 avid, and hungry quilters who drove a long way to get to my neck of the woods.

 

Such an wonderful group of ladies all sharing the bond of quilting!  They chatted and got acquainted with one another during the evening.  I have a feeling many new friendships will be made by the end of the week.

Then for dinner we had meatball soup, rolls, and Chinese Chicken Salad. We almost didn't need dinner after all of the fabulous appetizers!

It was nice enough to eat outside.....but, notice everyone is wearing a jacket.

We begin sewing in earnest this morning at 8am sharp.  More pictures to follow over the next few days.  I've got to scoot and meet up with my girls.

Pin & Needles

Hello Everyone,

 

I'm on pin & needles waiting for my twenty-five ladies to arrive for my Sew'n Wild Oaks quilting retreat at Snowflake Lodge.

 

The ladies are coming from New Mexico, Idaho, Napa area, Santa Cruz, the Sacramento Valley, and the San Francisco Bay Area.  What fun we are going to have!!  I'll post pictures throughout the week of the festivities.  It all begins tonight when the ladies show up at Wilder's Last Resort for dinner.  I have enough food in the fridge to feed an army.......homemade rolls, Chinese Chicken Salad, and meatball soup.  It is definitely soup weather in the Sierras.  Crisp, cool nights and mornings with crystal blue sky during the day.  Perfect quilting weather.

When I planned this retreat months ago, I had no idea my favorite baseball team, the San Francisco Giants, would be in the World Series.  I look ghastly in orange, but I'm going to take one for the team and dress in my orange and black tomorrow for game #6.  Maybe it will be a good thing if all of my girls wear orange since it is hunting season!  I don't want my DEAR quilters to be mistaken for a DEER!

Hello Everyone,

 

Blogging friends are the best!  I've been teasing Candace at Squash House Quilts for years about growing a plaid pumpkin for me.  Look what arrived in the mail! 

 



The pumpkin arrived with a table runner to match.  Candace I love it!  She also made a set for my sister Gail.  How lucky can two girls get?  It looks perfect on the coffee table.  Mazey promised me that she wouldn't touch them.....and she hasn't.  She knows how special this is to me.  Thank you so much for your thoughtfulness Candace.

So yesterday I decided to make a Halloween pillow.  By early afternoon I put the finishing touches on it......not so fast.......take a look at the bottom row of double flying geese that I stitched on upside down!

A couple hours later and a couple of blue words, it is all fixed. I can't believe I did that.  I didn't notice it until I took a picture.  Pictures never lie.

Mazey, Mr. Joe and I took a walk down to Snowflake Lake this afternoon.  I hope the trees hold on to their colorful leaves for another week.  The lodge you see nestled in trees, is the location for my quilting retreat next week.  I'm thinking the girls will take breaks and walk around the lake during the day.

Our little grand kids love spending time in this lake during the summer.  The water is usually bone-chilling melted snow, but it doesn't seem to bother them.

 

 

While we were there, a flock of geese came in for a landing.  You would never know Mazey is a hunting dog.  She could have cared less about them.

I LOVE this time of year in the mountains.  It sounds like it is going to be a stormy weekend too.  I hope so.  Stormy weather and quilting go hand in hand, along with getting ready for my Sew'n Wild Oaks quilting retreat.  There are also baseball and football games to watch.  So many fun things to look forward to.  It's going to be a great weekend!
