Sew'n Wild Oaks Retreat

Hello Everyone,

 

Ladies start your engines....machines, it's time for the Sew'n Wild Oaks retreat A.K.A. The Hokey Pokey Retreat, a place where you can turn yourself around.

 

 

If you need a break from normal life, inspiration, companionship, laughter, great food, and yes a little bit of quilting, then you've come to the right place. The ladies started arriving at Snowflake Lodge around 2pm Monday afternoon.  The friendly bell boy, (that would be me) helped unpack the cars.

 



Each of the girls received a gift from me, and you'll get to peek inside the bag tomorrow.

 ......to this in a very short period of time.

Once everyone was set up, we headed to my cabin for dinner.  Each of the girls brought appetizers and desserts. WOW, we ate like royalty.  I was so busy chatting we everyone that I totally missed the dessert stations!  How did that happen?

 

This is just one of the food stations.  We had food all around the cabin.

 



Candace in Walla Walla, you are here with us in spirit via your pumpkin and table runner.....next year hopefully you'll be here in person.

There was a bit of a nip in the air, but not enough that we couldn't enjoy the mountain air and eat outside.

 

We are all looking forward to a great day of quilting.  We are set and ready to sew!  I think you will be amazed at the projects the girls brought with them.

It is chilly this morning and Fall finally seems to be making an appearance.  We'll be able to get our walks in around the lake today.  Tomorrow we may have rain.....glorious rain.

Sew'n Wild Oaks 2015 Quilting Retreat

Hello Everyone,

 

On Monday, October 26th, these doors are going to open wide and welcome 35 quilters to Snowflake Lodge in Arnold, California for three days of non-stop quilting.

 



 

Here is a picture of just one side of the classroom area that I took last year before everyone arrived. 

This will be our home beginning Monday through Thursday.

There is a little bit of fall color.  California is so parched, the leaves are falling off the trees before they get a chance to turn color.

 

The girls walked around the lake twice a day last year.

 

There's a new little bridge for you this year so you won't have to ford the stream and get muddy feet.

 



 

The pine beetle is taking a toll on our pine trees.  You can see some of the casualties in the background.   The trees are so stressed from the lack of water, the insects literally suck the life out of them. We need a hard freeze to stop them in their tracks.

 



It is so peaceful, and restful at Blue Lake Springs.  If any of you saw the 1980's movie "Dirty Dancing", this looks like the area where it was filmed. Remember the dance scene where Jennifer Grey was lifted out of the water and suspended above Patrick Swayze's head?  That will NOT be happening next week.  If Mr. Joe tried it, both he and I would be in traction for weeks.  A nice slow waltz on the beach would be just fine with us.

I really enjoyed my afternoon stroll around the lake.

 

 Last one in is a rotten egg!

I'm starting the waiting list for my retreat next year.  Those in attendance this year get right of first refusal.....then I open it up to the waiting list.  So, if you are interested...............

New Lil' Orphan Scrappy BOM

 Hello Everyone,

I'm starting a new Block of the Month at In Between Stitches soon.  Here's what I've done so far.

I scanned all of the fabrics and imported them into EQ7. Then I started filling in the blocks with the swatches.

 

Each month you will download a picture and the cutting directions for the blocks you will be making.  Each month you will make eight - 6" blocks. You would make 4 blocks exactly like this......

 

......and four more exactly like this one.  This block is my favorite.

Then I started making the blocks knowing ahead of time exactly what they were going to look like.

 



 

This will be your prize at the end of the program.  Your own Lil' Orphan Scrappy quilt. Your quilt will not be identical to mine, but it will have the same look and warm feel of scrappy, reproduction fabrics.  I'm selecting and cutting all of the fabrics for you so your job will be easy.

Today is cabin cleaning day.  We haven't been here for a few weeks and I literally walked through cobwebs at the back of the cabin.  I have very productive spiders decorating for Halloween!
