Dog and Pony Show in Sonora

Hello Everyone,

 

It's has been a very busy week for me so far.  I had the pleasure of speaking to the Sierra Quilt Guild in Sonora Monday evening.

 

There was a full house at the Senior Citizens Center. They laughed heartily and applauded in all of the right places.  They are a great group of talented quilters.

The quilts were all placed on a table in order of their appearance.  I tell my story through the quilts.....they are eloquent speakers, and they say so much about me.

 

My buddies, Kaaren, Donna, and my sister Gail held up the quilts on cue throughout the talk.  They were so funny.....an added sideshow to the evening.  All they needed were some tap shoes, top hats, and canes, and they can take their show on the road!

 



Yesterday I had another full house for the Patchwork Math Workshop in the Creekside building at the Fairgrounds.  It was a wonderful classroom.  The girls had lots of space and I had plenty of room for my presentation of the material.

It is so helpful to have Gail circulating throughout the room helping everyone.  I couldn't do this without her help.  We are now known as "The Sister Act".

The girls worked hard all morning making their components.  They were delightful!  It was so nice getting to know all of you and see your creativity.  Right before lunch, components started appearing on the portable design wall.

 

I truly love getting out of my sewing room to spend time with quilters.  Your creativity, kindness, and thirst for learning, feeds my soul.  It's YOU that keeps my creative spirit going strong.  Thank you Sierra Quilt Guild for the wonderful opportunity.  Both Gail and I had a fabulous time.

Airing of the Quilts

Hello Everyone,

 

It's a lazy Saturday here at Sew'n Wild Oaks.  I started laying out all of my quilts to get them in order of appearance for my lecture on Monday, when I got this hair-brained idea to put all of them out on the railing and banisters. 

 

This little exercise took both Mr. Joe and me about an hour to stage for the shot.  The rain clouds were rolling in, and the breeze was blowing......but we made it with only one quilt sailing off into space.  Emilie Elizabeth was the only unruly quilt, possibly because she's only a flimsy.  There's always one kid that just doesn't want to behave!

 As far as I know, the birdies left the quilts alone.....if you catch my drift!

It is against the Homeowner's Association rules and regulations to have anything hanging on your railings.....hmmmmm.  They are probably writing up an infraction while I'm keying this into the computer!

My Girls - The Finishers

Hello Everyone,

 

I offered my Sew'n Wild Oaks class a week early this month on Tuesday, and now I'm a day late posting the pictures!  You can see that my girls have been very, very busy and productive.  Another Harvest of Hope will be done soon.

 

 

Melody found a great piece of fabric and fussy cut the flowers for her flower basket.  This is a great idea.  She plans to machine applique the flowers in place.

Another barn has been raised with a cute and colorful roof.

Love the use of plaids in this block!

Barbara is testing my pattern directions for Emilie Elizabeth.  I'm loving the 1930's fabrics.  This pattern lends itself so well to that style.  Knowing Barbara, she will have this finished by next Tuesday!

Kathy's Toyland Tree is officially a flimsy and on the way to the machine quilter.  The details in the following two quilts are quite amazing.  Both Kathy and Judy created a family heirloom.

 Judy also finished her Toyland Tree and it is at the quilters!  (The background fabric is black with white polka dots and sometimes it just doesn't photograph well at an angle.)

I tell you, my girls are amazing!  I have lots more pictures of the blocks the rest of the group made for the online quilt-a-long beginning in June.  I will post them as the time gets a bit closer to the rollout of the online block of the month in June.

I'm on the road again.  I'm speaking at the Sierra Quilt Guild in Sonora on Monday.  I'll be teaching my Patchwork Math Workshop on Tuesday.  If any of you are in the area, I would love to meet you.
