Sew'n Wild Oaks Class Was In Session

Hello Everyone,

 

My girls and I were together on Tuesday in the classroom at In Between Stitches.  They are always THE BEST!  Such a pleasant and creative group of women.

 

Irene created a beautiful basket of fall flowers with a blue bird of happiness for you from my Harvest of Hope pattern. She cut the flowers from a single fat quarter to fill her basket.

 



Suzanne has four wonderful pumpkins made for her Harvest of Hope quilt. 

Then I have my "Lucy" girls working on Lucy Boston.  Intricate and beautiful.....each and every one.  The blocks and the girls!

Suzanne is also working on the baskets for Once Upon a Vine. This quilt was inspired from the fact that we live in an area quickly becoming known for great wine.

Judy is halfway through her blocks for Grammy Squares.

 

I love the fussy cut center.

Then I have my "scrappy" girls working on Lil' Orphan Scrappy.

Barbara got her Christmas blocks joined together with the little Y-square sashing. The blocks look as though they are suspended on latticework.   You can view the video to learn how to make the Y-squares and get the formulas HERE at The Quilt Show.com

 

Evelynne is also making tiny Y-squares to put in her sashing her blocks for Winters Warmth. 

 

 

Pat is making beautiful Dresden baskets.  She had a fabulous selection of '30s fabrics to choose from at her table.

Barbara is framing a cross stitch that she made a few years ago.  She used the Patchwork Math book to calculate the size she needed for the parallel geese for the border. 

Sometimes I just stop what I'm doing and look around to admire the walls that the girls have decorated with their handiwork.  Customers can't help but stroll into the classroom to have a closer look.  They are incredible quilters.  I love spending time with my girls.

Thank you for all of your comments about the sampler quilt and different border options.  I hope to get them on today and I'll post a picture tomorrow of what I decided to do.....it wasn't an easy decision to make.

My blogging schedule is going to be very erratic over the next few weeks.  I have a lot on my plate between participating and having a booth in two quilt shows, company arriving from North Carolina, a birthday party for my grandson, (my DIL invited 40 people to this and it' a swimming party at my house....she has now been written out of the will!) There's Quilting in the Garden at Alden Lane nursery, and I'm teaching a full Patchwork Math workshop on Sept. 29th at the nursery......and that's all in the next three weeks! So if you don't hear from me, I'll be curled up in a fetal position in my quilting room.

Bordering on.......

Hello Everyone,

 

To border or not to border.  As is, the quilt measures 39" x 39".

 

I need a little input here people.  Since it's a sampler quilt, should I just put on a red binding and call it quits?  Or make a border with components?  Or put on a thin red inner border with a wider beige border?  Blue border?  Red border?  Beige border with a ribbon running through it?  I'm usually much more decisive and know exactly what I want to do.  This quilt came together so quickly, I guess I didn't have time to think about it.

Patchwork Math Sampler

Hello Everyone,

 

So I've been making all of these blocks for The Quilt Show.  I'm thinking they would make good examples for my Patchwork Math workshops.  But wait, why don't I put them together and make a Patchwork Math Sampler quilt.

 



But first I had to design and make four more blocks.

So I did. 

I'm only using components in the Patchwork Math book, and only components that I covered during my segments on The Quilt Show.  The only exceptions are quarter square triangles, and four patches.  Those two components are a piece of cake. 

They are going together beautifully with their little Y-square sashing. One row down, two to go.

Now I have to decide if I want to add borders or not.  Maybe my border should be made from more components.  Decisions, Decisions......
