California Here We Come!

 Hello Everyone,

We saw our first bison yesterday about 1 mile into Theodore Roosevelt National Park. What a handsome animal.

The entrance to the park is only a half mile from the retreat center.

We saw lots of prairie dogs, wild horses in the distance, and Gail thinks she saw a coyote.

Someone wrote on my FaceBook page that North Dakota is so flat you can watch your dog run away for two weeks!  The eastern side is pretty flat; however, we enjoyed the easy drive across the prairie.

This sign was riddled with bullet holes.

One of the quilters at the retreat suggested we drive through the Black Hills in Spearfish Canyon....so we did.  We were so glad we did!

We saw four big-horned sheep along the route.

The Black Hills are spectacular.

We got a hotel room in Hill City, SD, unloaded the car and headed to Mount Rushmore.

I have no words for this memorial.  We took the loop walk which took us directly underneath the face of the mountain.  Our knees can feel all the stairs we walked yesterday.

We waited until the faces were illuminated around 7pm.

It was spectacular and well worth the wait.

We caught George's profile as we drove out of the area.

This morning we are headed to the Crazy Horse Monument, then off to drive through miles and miles of Wyoming.  The car is now headed West!

What a memorable day of spectacular vistas to wildlife sightings.  What a road trip!

Soon,
Lynn
