Leaf Peepers

Hello Everyone,

Busy days here at Wilder's Last Resort.  I raked up all of my leaves and stitched them all together for my new "Leaf Peepers" pattern.  Borders will be the next order of business once I figure out what I'm going to do.

The majority of the leaves are made with "October Morning" fabric by Kim Diehl for Henry Glass Fabrics.  The setting squares are from Kim's "Wit and Wisdom" fabric line.  I have the leaf part of the pattern written which was the hardest part.  Now I have to finish the rest of it.

I'm am so ready for Fall.  I just want to put up the Christmas tree and write this year off.

More bears!  While we were eating lunch on the deck yesterday, Mazey sounded the bear alarm.  We looked over at our neighbor's cabin, and there was a bear right by their front door.  I didn't have my phone, so I don't have a picture of that one......which was a BIG one.   While we were eating dinner, the furry bear alarm went off again. I know I'm a good cook, but dinner didn't smell THAT good! I was ready this time, and had my phone with me when this little guy walked by.

The number of bears in our area has made a huge impact on my walking routine. Now we drive down to the track at the elementary school to get in our walk and Mazey's run.  We feel a bit safer there.

What is so surprising about the bears is they can sneak up on you.  For something so big, they are so quiet. Without Mazey, we probably wouldn't know they were around.  We have to walk up to our detached garage to get to our car.  I just might be housebound, social distancing, and sheltering in place forever!

Soon,
Lynn

  1. Morning Lynn! I love the setting squares with the leaves...perfect print to go with this quilt. Love the Mazey alarm! Can't believe the number of bears you have as visitors this year. Stay safe and enjoy them from the indoors.

    1. Thanks Jeanne. We always thought there were more bears in the neighborhood because so many people have outdoor cameras. We don't have an outdoor camera, we just watch them with our own two eyes!

  2. that sounds really crazy to have so many bear around - I like wandering around outside all the time and don't have a dog for an alarm! I know they are in our area too in Arkansas but I rarely have ever seen them and none close to home although a neighbor a quarter mile away has seen one on the road in front of his house

    1. We think we get a lot of bears wandering through because we live on a game trail that leads to the lake.

  3. Leaf Peepers is so striking, Lynn! Perhaps the bear are after your quilts to cozy up their hibernation holes this winter! Thank goodness for Mazey - she has definitely earned her treats!

    1. Mazey does earn her keep around here. The neighbors are so impressed, they want to get a dog.

  4. What a lovely quilt! I'd likely just park closer to the house and ignore the garage for a while. When I forget to take the downstairs finch feeder in until after dark, I'm always leery because the woods come up pretty close to the house. Critters do live here. Stay safe!

    1. Unfortunately we can't park close to the house. We are on a hill, and the garage is at the top of the hill.

  5. My daughter-in-law's parents live in Twain Harte and they, too, have been visited by bears. Exciting for them to see, as it's not a normal occurrence.

  6. Glad to hear you are using the local track for your walks! It seems like you are living in the middle of a zoo!! Love your leaf peepers! And I'm so sad about the August retreat being cancelled! Sigh.... I'm beginning to call this year "The year that never was". So many things in life that just aren't happening! Take care!! Hugs, H

    1. I do feel like we live in a game reserve, Helen. There is so much wildlife around this year. All of the "summer people" are here, and they don't always dispose of their garbage properly.

  7. I love it! I love it! I love it! It turned out just beautiful! Can't wait to see the borders on.
I love all things fall! Be careful of those bears! I wouldn't set foot out the door! Good reason to stay in and sew! HUGS... and stitches

    1. Thank you Chrisie! I figured out the borders today. Now I have to make more leaf blocks. Sometimes I make so much work for myself.

  8. What a spectacular quilt! I am with you, let's just have Fall and write this whole year off. I wonder sometimes how we will all feel as we look back on this year. Stay safe and close to your sweet watchdog!

  9. Would you say that you are seeing more bears this year than usual... or do I remember that you moved up there last fall so do not have a good reference point?
