Butterscotch Baskets Revisited

Hello Everyone,

I love, I repeat, LOVE to get photos of my quilts made in different colorways than my original.  Pat, from Northern California, came to see me at the quilt show in Grass Valley, and showed me pictures of her Butterscotch Baskets which she renamed to Baskets on the Mesa.

Pat said it took her 3-1/2 years, and look what she has to show for her efforts.  Well done Pat!  I love your rich colors and precision piecing.

Here's my original Butterscotch Baskets in a photo taken at Calaveras Big Trees State Park. This quilt is very scrappy.

I had to throw in this picture of the reflection in the water.  It was so unusual to have water in this stream since we were in our drought at the time.

Here's another Butterscotch taken at Quilt Shop on Main in Hutchinson, MN. This quilt was made using only Thimbleberries fabrics.

Don't be afraid to change up those colors and make the quilt your own.  Your reward will be a beautiful quilt like Pat's.

My grand daughter is coming over after high school to help me stuff patterns.  I have a stack of printing just waiting to be stuffed and priced.

I'm headed to the Flying Needles Quilt Guild in Woodland for a lecture this Thursday evening.  Then I'm going back on Saturday for a Patchwork Math workshop.  I have a quick turn-around time to get ready to be a vendor at the Wine Country quilt show sponsored by the Moonlight Quilt Guild in Santa Rosa the first weekend in June.  My booth is right by the front entrance, so EVERYONE stops by.  Talk about FUN!  I also tend to get a little hoarse since I try to talk to all quilters who come to my booth.

I don't have time to quilt, so someone has to quilt for me today!

Lynn

And Then There Were Two

Hello Everyone,

.......and then there were two Butterscotch Baskets.  This is the quilt that Gail and I made together.  I'm shipping it off to Houston this week and it will be in Stichin' Heaven's booth.

Today the key word is binding.  The quilt was beautifully quilted by Diane Schweikert.  Thank you so much Diane for bailing me out, and taking on this quilt with short notice.

I'm also getting the house ready for a visit from HRH.....Her Royal Highness.....Quilt Sue.  Sue arrives next Monday from England.....yikes!!  I have to get this rear in gear and get the house prepared for a royal visit.

I began with the sewing room yesterday.  It no longer has trails that I have to navigate to get to my machine.  I can actually see the machine now.  Isn't that a novel idea!  The room is so tidy and all dusted and vacuumed.  All projects and fabric are put away in the closet.  Now.....about the closet.  You will NOT be seeing any photos of the closet.

Let's just say it looks something like Fibber Mcgee's closet in 1948.  There I am looking down at poor Mr. Joe buried under tons of fabric and projects.

Today, after I make binding, I think I'll get the Fall decorations out from another closet.  Wish me luck on that front!

Soon,
Lynn

It's All Good

Hello Everyone,

Sometimes there is so much going on and so many good happening that my head starts to spin. Did you receive your Keepsake Quilting catalog yet?  HERITAGE is in there again!  But if you go to the Keepsake Quilting website, you will see that BUTTERSCOTCH BASKETS is being offered as a BOM beginning in December.

My kitchen table has been stacked with boxes of patterns ready for stuffing and shipping.  Never a dull moment around this house!  Don't forget, I have an extensive tutorial HERE that walks you every step along the Block of the Month way to make Butterscotch Baskets.  It has been a great selling tool for me and for the shops that have purchased the pattern.

Now my living room is beginning to get piles of quilts packed for me to take to the Needle Nellies Quilt Show in Georgetown. Gail and I leave tomorrow for the show.  I feel honored to be in the Georgetown Gazette!

The Nellies always put on a nice outdoor show. The weather should be fabulous this weekend. We've made a lot of friends over the years in Georgetown and we always look forward to our time together.

Yesterday I marked Homemade Holiday to get it ready for the long arm.

A few hours later, it was finished and ready for binding.  Today I have to finish the pattern and get some printing done.  Along with a thousand other things........

Quilting at Cloth and Quilts

Hello Everyone,

It has been a busy week of teaching for me at Sew'n Wild Oaks.  On Wednesday, I spent the day at Cloth and Quilts in Turlock teaching Butterscotch Baskets.  Susan, one of my students from previous classes brought in her version of Country Charmer.  It is incredibly beautiful.

Such talent.  In fact, Susan is being recognized for her talent as she was selected to be the featured artist at the Sierra Quilt Guild Show in Sonora Sept. 17th and 18th.

Susan is also making my Grammy Squares pattern.  I love her clear, solid colors and the gray separator strips.  I can't wait to see this one completed!

The girls in the class got right to work on their Butterscotch Baskets quilts.  Some of them purchased kits which are available by calling Cloth and Quilts at 209-632-3225.  The gals at the shop put kits together which are identical to my original.  If you call and order a kit, tell them Lynn sent you.

A couple of the girls are selecting their own fabrics for the blocks.  Bravo!!  I love to see my patterns changed to reflect the quilters own style.

Sandra purchased a kit, but she's changing up the look of the blocks her own way.  She cut and made the parts and pieces for the little basket block, and placed the pieces on the block layout sheet.  Once she had everything just the way she wanted it.....

She stitched the block together.

I love the touch of blue in the fabric line.

I feel so lucky to be able to spend the day surrounded by beautiful quilts and beautiful people.  Yes Judy, that means YOU!  But Cindy is smarter.  Wink, Wink.  You girls are so funny and made me laugh.

Lynn

P.S.  If you don't want to purchase an entire Butterscotch Basket kit all at once, Stitchin' Heaven is offering it as a BOM beginning in November.  Click HERE for more information.

Butterscotch Baskets Tutorial

 Hello Everyone,

I haven't dropped off the face of the earth......I've been spending time with the kids before they head off to school this week.  In between my 'kid' time, I was working on an online tutorial for Butterscotch Baskets.  The tutorial is a companion to your pattern.
You can find the link at the top of my blog called Butterscotch Baskets Tutorial.  I took pictures and documented the process the entire step of the way.  I'm actually going to use it as a teaching tool this week while I lead a Butterscotch Baskets class at Cloth and Quilts.

On another note, our middle son and his family camped at Union Reservoir for three days.  The lake is about an hour north of the cabin in the Carson Iceberg Wilderness Area.  First, we brought the little kids up with us to spend a day at the cabin on Thursday.  Then Mom & Dad arrived to take them further up into the mountains for camping.

We drove up to their campsite Saturday afternoon and had dinner with them.  We were there for about five hours.  The little kids took us exploring, and I couldn't believe how dirty we got in that short period of time!  I guess I'm still a kid a heart.  I love to go exploring and see what's around the next bend in the trail.

The kids had a ball.  They immediately took us to see the rope swing.  I so wanted to try it out, but my guardian angel (Mr. Joe) tapped me on the shoulder and suggested that it might not be the best idea.....you know weight limits and all that!

Our son took this picture of the sunrise yesterday morning while he was out early with their dog, Copper.  What a glorious and spiritual way to begin your day.

It's a beautiful new day dawning for all of us.  Make it a good one for you and everyone around you.

Lynn

The Traveling Quilt

Hello Everyone,

The good people at Quilt Haven on Main in Hutchinson, MN sent me a picture of Butterscotch Baskets on display in their shop.  Doesn't this look cozy?  Do you think they would mind, (or notice me) if I curled up on the bed for a long nap?  I could chat with customers and make myself right at home.

This is a huge milestone for me.  You seen Quilt Haven on Main is located in the historic Thimbleberries building, formerly Lynette Jensen's studio shop.  I became a quilter because I absolutely loved Lynette Jensen's style.  I wanted to emulate her sense of color and design.  You can read more about my passion for Thimbleberries HERE, my post from last February.

For me, this is bigger than having one of my quilts at Quilt Market.  This is coming home to where my journey started. To become first a quilter, and then a designer.

If you would like to make a Butterscotch Baskets quilt identical to mine, contact Quilt Haven on Main and they will be very happy to send you a kit.  The fabric used to make this quilt is called Autumn Landscape by Lynette Jensen for RJR fabrics.

I'm working on a tutorial that I will post online to walk you through the process.  I'll hold your hand and be there the whole step along the way.

I'm off to the Preview Party tonight sponsored by In Between Stitches at the Purple Orchid Resort and Spa.  We will all display the quilts for the classes that we are offering over the next few months.  It's always a fun event.  Come on out and join us so you can sign up for the classes you want to take before the classes fill!

Butterscotch Baskets Again

Hello Everyone,

I haven't posted in days, and I have an excellent excuse.  My sister Gail and I have been making another Butterscotch Baskets quilt at the request of RJR fabrics.  Most likely this one will travel to Australia once it's finished.

Gail has been VERY busy making all 80 of the Ohio Star blocks on her own at home.  She also made 6 of the little basket blocks.  If it weren't for her, this quilt would not be this far along in the process.

While Gail was sewing the frames around the basket blocks, I was sewing the blocks together in groups of four, and added the little red dot in the center.  Then I made 6 more basket blocks.

Here's our workstation without a cookie in sight!  Those two Berninas were humming for days.

All parts are pieces are done....just waiting for a quilt to be born.  it is amazing this small pile can become an entire quilt.

We started assembling the parts and pieces yesterday morning.

Good Morning All...Gail here to put in my two cents.  We have had another marathon quilting session going on since Tuesday at the cabin.  We haven't posted during this process.  Instead, we've just kept our noses to the grindstone the whole time!  We were seeing daylight yesterday when we started putting it all together.  We were like two horses headed for the barn!  And now as I am writing, Lynn is sewing the last seam.  I "made" her do the last one that joins the two halves, since she is faster and I am "all tuckered out"!  I do have to thank Mr. Joe, who took pity on me, and brought home two BOXES of cookies the other day.  Of course, I had to share, but I SAVORED every bite!  Now it's time for me to head home.  Stay tuned to see what I have "volunteered" for next and Sweat Shop Central will open it's doors once again.  Enjoy your weekend, everyone!

All it needs now is some borders, and it's off to be quilted.

The first quilt is now on display at Quilt Haven on Main in Hutchinson, MN.  They are selling kits if you are interested in making this beauty from the Autumn Landscape fabric line by Lynette Jensen from Thimbleberries.  (If you buy a kit, Gail has graciously volunteered to go to your homes and make all 80 Ohio Star blocks for you.....wink wink!)  It's fun to tease your sister.

Mazey wanted to get in on the action and make sure you saw her "selfie".  Unfortunately you can't see her pearly white teeth.
