Bordering On..........

Hello Everyone,

I managed to find some time yesterday to work on Emilie Elizabeth.  All of the twenty baskets are now finished and almost half of them are framed and set in the setting triangles.

This quilt is going to be very patriotic, but not so patriotic that it can't be on display throughout the whole year. And, there's nothing wrong about being patriotic every single day! This quilt has the look and feel of a Civil War quilt, but a lot of the fabrics I used are not from the Civil War section.  I've been drawing from every bin of my stash.

Designing a medallion quilt is new to me.  It definitely has presented some challenges, but that has been the fun part. I like to leave some open space to fill with machine quilting.  I'm thinking about machine quilting almost every minute while I piece.  Now that's way too much thinking for anyone.....especially for me.

This week I want to finish the top and bottom to complete this go-round.  Then it's time for the square in a square blocks.  Then.......we will all have to wait and see what comes next. I think I know what is coming next, but I could change my mind as soon as it goes up on the design wall. What looks good on paper isn't always the end result.

I could stop right here since the quilt is growing beyond my design wall, but this isn't big enough yet.  I want this quilt to cover a queen bed.  I could, and I just might, make this again and stop at this row.  I could make another one that isn't a controlled, scrappy quilt.  Help, I'm out of control already planning another version!

I'm off to the shop this morning for work.  When I was there on Saturday I didn't have time to shop.  I saw so many new bolts of fabric, I'm going to have a field day today!  I wonder how much fabric is going to follow me home?

Soon,
Lynn

  1. If I worked in a quilt shop, I'd have no net income because all the money would stay there! When I was in high school I had a part time job at the public library and was always bringing books home, more than I could read in my free time.

  2. I do just love those baskets. Yeah, I would have trouble working in a quilt shop too - but what fun getting into trouble!

  4. I say make both versions, one for the bed, one for the wall. You usually do a second version anyway, and that is a great way to show that this quilt has that flexibility.
One LQS owner refers to her employees as Indentured Servants...small wonder!

  7. I for one hope you keep on thinking, Lynn....I don't know what I would do without seeing new eye candy from you ;>) I'm sure loving how this one is turning out! Feel free when you're at the shop to ask a lot of that new fabric to take a trip to Washington!
    Cheers!

  9. According to my theory New fabric purchases cannot exceed the size of the room where they reside until use. I have room I can purchase fabric.
