Hello Everyone,
Yesterday afternoon I knocked out ten little Courthouse Steps blocks using an assembly line process. In this photo, the blocks are all lined up waiting for their next "light" strip.
Now I selected the next dark color that I wanted to add. I don't select all of the darks at one time for a block. I wait and see what it looks like before I select another color. I don't cut "logs". I string piece, and then trim.
From brown, to yellow, to purple and pink......it all works. My fabrics have the same look and feel of Reproduction or Civil War fabrics. I have used hundreds of strips so far, and I keep cutting more.
I trim as I go so each block is the correct measurement.
Someone once told me that reproduction fabrics were too dull. I completely disagree.
By the end of the afternoon, I had ten blocks completed and ready for another row.
It's going to be a rainy day up here in the woods. I say it's good quilting weather.
Soon,
Lynn
Reproduction fabrics dull?? I guess it's a matter of taste but I generally find bright, bold fabrics too loud and too hard to match any room. I find these soothing, warm, cozy, etc. I suppose there's fabric for every mood.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Cheree! I do love the cheeriness of 1930s repros too though. Big bold colors are not my thing but a splash of them here or there is sometimes nice. Loving your little courthouse steps blocks :)
ReplyDeleteSo cute! I'm about to start work on some small courthouse steps blocks myself, for a different project. I think I'll adopt your assembly line method.
ReplyDeletej'aime beaucoup et j'adore les couleurs reposantes!!!
ReplyDeleteI love this block pattern and would be interested in purchasing the pattern when you have it ready. Thanks for showing how to work on several blocks at the same time.
ReplyDeleteI am making tiny 9patches too, they are addictive. I am using premium muslin for the neutrel, I have lots leftover from quilt backing I used for my big quilts.
ReplyDeleteI love all fabrics, but always head back to the Heritage love of the CW lines. I'm interested in seeing this one as a pattern offer as well. The tiny tickles me!
ReplyDeleteI love your fabric choices and your perfection...
ReplyDeleteI like the chain method you are using and would like to try it. It would probably work for a log cabin, too, right? I'm curious how many different fabrics you are using. The nine-patch centers really make it, dont you think? Thanks for showing us this!
ReplyDeleteGreat tutorial Lynn...
ReplyDelete:)
I love the look of this quilt. Are you making the quilt cute as a button into a larger quilt pattern?
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comment Evie. Yes, I will be writing Cute as a Button into a larger pattern with borders.
