Mittens With Moxie

Hello Everyone,

 

Just time for a quick post to let you know about the great deal at In Between Stitches today during their 12 Days of Christmas program. 

 



My Mittens With Moxie pattern is the special of the day.  The pattern is only $8.97 today only.

I put them on the tree before Christmas.  Everyone in the family has their own, unique mitten.  I take them off the tree on Christmas day, and use them as place cards on the table. 

Mr. Joe made me a nice little stand on which I can display them too.  I gave a whole set to our best friends a couple of years ago.  I just realized they have two new additions to their family this year, so I need to make more mittens!

I'm off to class this morning to see "my girls".  Thank you again for all of the comments about my 1000th post.  I'm still working my way through them, and sending personal thank you emails.

Sew'n Wild Oaks Class is in Session

Hello Everyone,

 

The following phenomenal quilts and projects are proudly brought to you by my Sew'n Wild Oaks girls.  They have been busy!!  Remember, they are finishers.  Kathy has been diligently working on her Toyland Tree quilt, and it is going to be decorating her home for Christmas. 

 

Kathy personalized her little baby doll with smocking, embroidery, lace and other embellishments which make her look so real.

Her quilt is incredible.....a real heirloom!

Suzanne is working on UFO's and isn't this one cute and timely.

I started another Holiday Treats Tablerunner.  This is a pattern by Laura Nownes.  It is so much fun to make the little presents and machine applique the little plaid, polka dot, and checked bows in place.

Cindy is finishing up two Nostalgic Christmas pillows.  They are so cheerful.

The next grouping of pictures are all made from my Country Corners blocks using the Patchwork Math book.  Here are Kathy's blocks which she made from scraps from all different projects.

Barbara brought in her tabletopper that she designed to fit an 8-sided table using a variety of Christmas fabrics.

This is my Country Corners scrappy version.....more blocks will be added this week.

This is Susan's light and airy block.

Gail has half of her Winterset sewn together!  This is a labor of love.  Gail chose to bypass the applique and make the quilt larger by adding lots of extra blocks.  You'll be seeing more of this one as it grows and grows.

 

 Isabelle designed a quilt for the coach of her daughter's ice skating team.  Each block represents and aspect of the team from bake sales to, different skating formation, to ice skates, to a first place trophy.  The coach is going to be amazed!

Marti is making some patchwork for Mittens with Moxie.  It takes awhile to get to this point and Marti is doing a great job.

 

 

The following blocks are all from Harvest of Hope. Suzanne made some great looking pumpkins.

 

Kathy finished her barn and sunflower.  I could live in this bar!

Isabelle finished her acorn block.  So pretty.

Patty is working on her October Magic quilt. Once she gets the applique section completed, the rest is going to be easy!

Irene has a good start on her For The Love of Baskets.  The baskets finish as 4".

She has a gorgeous little pile going!

Aren't my girls the quilting machines!  They out did themselves this time.  The classroom at In Between Stitches was filled with beauty on the wall and at each work station.  Well done by all!

Checking Off My List

Hello Everyone,

 

I've been very quiet for the last couple of days because I've been sewing up a storm.  I had two whole days to myself to work on my projects.  The first project was finishing the borders on Heartfire......check.

 

Another project was finishing up a batch of Mittens With Moxie......check

.....double check.

My third project was finishing three yo-yo trees.......check.  I cut an old (fake) pearl necklace apart and glued them to the trees.  I actually wore the pearls in high school.  I wasn't doing my impersonation of Laverne and Shirley....I WAS Laverne! I still have my necklace with an "L" on it.  I drew the line when it came to poodle skirts! My mother said I looked like a feather bed tied in the middle.   I'll leave you with that visual and move on to the next project.

The Season's Greetings center is the same in each pillow, yet they look entirely different.  The first pillow is more of a Winter pillow and will work for St. Patrick's Day too for my Irish friend.

The Preview Party hosted by In Between Stitches is this Sunday at the Purple Orchid Inn here in Livermore.  Heartfire will be there along with pearl-studded Christmas trees, and mittens.  Maybe I'll wear pearls too!

I have another whole day to myself, no classes, no decorating, just a whole day of TIME.  What a wonderful gift to myself.

Smittens With Mittens

 

Hello Everyone,

 

I know what you are thinking.....it isn't Thanksgiving yet and she's working on Christmas!  Well, if I don't start now, it isn't going to get finished.  I started making a double batch of Mittens With Moxie.

 



I began by making my own patchwork fabric by gathering together some of my favorite plaids, polka dots and Christmas fabrics.

After I stitched them together, I cut them all apart.....isn't that what quilters do?

Of course Zinnie had to get in the picture, and I'm glad she did so you can have a perspective on how long this patchwork became.  I need lots of mittens this year, so I doubled my pattern.  After the patchwork is made, I iron fusible fleece to the back, which gives the mittens some body.

I then pinned small, medium and large mittens down the entire length of the patchwork.  I ended up squeezing 29 mittens out of the fabric by laying the mittens out every which way.

Then I cut out all around the mittens.  They are all different!  There is absolutely no way I could ever match up these mittens.  Well I could if I really wanted to, but I don't want to.  This batch will soon be ready for backings, a cuff, yo-yo, button, and tag.

This is a picture of some mittens that I made last year.

My granddaughters make the little tags for me.  We use them on the table as place cards and put the silverware inside.  After dinner, the mittens go back on the Christmas tree.

Mr. Joe made the mitten display rack for me that I leave out year-round at the cabin.  It's always Christmas at my house.

I'm off to the shop this morning to teach Toyland Tree.  The girls are moving right along on their Christmas quilts.  So put on some Christmas music, (I am possibly the only person I know that listens to Christmas music throughout the entire year), and start in on those Christmas projects today!

Smitten with Mittens

Hello Everyone,

I have just enough time for a quick post this morning.  Our dearest friends, Santa Mike and Mrs. Mike are coming over for dinner tonight.  Santa Mike comes over as Santa at 5pm for gifts and pictures, runs across the street to change, and comes back as Mr. Mike for dinner.  So far, the little kids haven't put two and two together yet......and I hope they never will.

I made a complete set of Mittens with Moxie for their family.  Our granddaughter, Kinsey, decorated all of the tags and Mr. Joe made the mitten stand.  This was a true family gift from one family to another.

Santa Mike and Mrs. Mike are the kindest, most genuine people that we are proud to call friends.  They embrace the true meaning of Christmas throughout the entire year.

Our 10-year-old granddaughters are in charge of dinner for 15 tonight.  They are coming over at 1 this afternoon to start making Sweet and Sour Chicken with a side dish of fried rice.  The rest of the family is bringing side dishes and desserts.  It's never too early to start the little ones learning how to cook, set the table, and decorate.  They love it AND they are great little cooks.

Nine Little Pumpkins Sitting on a Gate.......

Hello Everyone,

When I was at the Georgetown quilt show, I sold all of the stands that Mr. Joe made made out of a wine stave and dowels that hold my Mittens with Moxie.  The stands sold out very quickly.  Needle Nellie Lynda bought one of the stands and sent me a picture of her creation the day after the show!

These pumpkins made me smile.  They are just so darn cute!  As my friend Lisa would say, they aren't just cute, they are 'stinkin' cute'. Now, you know I'm a dog person, but I love the kitty pumpkin.

A couple of days later, Lynda sent me a picture of her mittens.  She had some log cabin blocks left over from a project and put them to good use by making mittens.

There were so many ladies gathered around the mitten table coming up with ideas and uses for the stand.  One lady suggested making decorated garden gloves for a summer display.  I want to decorate mine with hearts at Valentine's Day. Some other ideas were Santa hats, snowmen, and bells for Christmas.  Witch hats, candy corn and, ghosts for Halloween.

When Mr. Joe has some free time, he's going to make more stands and they will be down at the shop for sale.  It will be a fun decoration for any time of the year on a long table or a fireplace mantel.

I've started a new pattern and I'll show pictures of my progress tomorrow.  This is going to be a looooonnnnnngggggg project.  I've always wanted to design and make a medallion quilt.  The time has arrived. 

Get those creative juices flowing today and send me some more ideas that I can make and use on the stave holder.  Thank you so much Lynda for sending me pictures of your darling or "stinkin' cute" creations.  I welcome pictures and love to see everyones creativity.

Christmas Quilt Along - Post #5

Hello Again,

I took a small break to go to the car show downtown. Mr. Joe's car is entered in the show, so I went to be with him for a little while.

When I'm not answering email or looking at cars, I've been working on a new pillow pattern using the Sentiments fabric from 3 Sisters for Moda.  The top will finish off at 18" square.  You know, this would make a nice quilt block too......hhhmmmmmm. 

I started out by framing the center section, with plaid of course!

Then I made up a batch of double flying geese.

They went around next.

Another strip of tone-on-tone red.  I could have stopped here for a 16" pillow.  But you know me, it had to have a flange!
