The Nameless Quilt

Hello Everyone,

This is my "free" month where I can work on whatever I want to work on.  This wonderful grouping of Nancy's Needle fabrics by Betsy Chutchian, has been calling my name.....quite loudly at times.

These are the two blocks that I'll be combining in the quilt.

This is just a sample of what is on my design wall, and what the quilt layout is going to look like.  I absolutely love the "chain" effect in this quilt.

All of the centers will contain a paisley.

This is just part of the Nancy's Needle line of fabrics.  It is just so me, right up my alley right into my wheelhouse.

Well, my team didn't win the Super Bowl yesterday.  It was a good game, and I congratulate the Kansas City Chiefs for their great comeback.  We had some friends over, along with my sister Gail.  We grazed our way through the appetizer table during the game.  Toward the last 6 minutes, no one left their chair for any food......but we did make a trip to the wine bar!  Purely for medicinal purposes.

Soon,
Lynn

Bursting My Buttons

Hello Everyone,

My buttons are bursting.....not from too much food over the Holidays.....but from the fact that I can finally tell you my Country Courthouse quilt is going to be featured in QuiltMania magazine this year!

I submitted a picture to the magazine last July, and I was notified in August that it was accepted for publication.

The nerves set in immediately after acceptance, because I had to either have it quilted or do it myself.  I spoke with an award-winning professional quilter, Jill Schumacher, and she said this quilt should be completely stitched in the ditch.  So that's what I did last fall.   It almost killed me.....but I can say with pride that this quilt is entirely designed, pieced and quilted by me.....all 81" x 81" of it!

As you recall, first I made Cute as a Button.  During the month of February I was pretty much snowed in, and all I did was make 9-patch, and Courthouse Steps blocks.  They were addicting.  I thought to myself, look at all the scraps I'm using.  Well those scraps multiplied like rabbits, and I had scraps all over the cabin and didn't make one dent in my stash.

Here's a good picture of all that "ditch" work.

The plans are still in the making, but I was asked if the editor, who lives in France, could come to the cabin in July to do a photo shoot!  It might be a couple of months before she plans her trip.  I will let you know when and if the photo shoot is going to happen.  Mr. Joe and I are looking around at everything that we think needs to be done prior to her visit.  Our cabin is an eclectic jumble of stuff that we've collected over the past 47 years.....and it all needs dusting and a good spit shine.

I have other designs in the works just begging me to finish them.  I will be on an accelerated quilting pace over the next few months.

Every morning I can't wait to get out of bed because I have so many projects that I want to work on.  I have my projects from all of the fabric Henry Glass & Co. sent me.

I got my borders on, but I'm not ready for the big reveal yet.

I have all of the Nancy's Needle fabric that Moda sent to me.  I'm surrounded in gorgeous fabrics and fun projects.  I feel like I've hit the quilting jackpot.  I moved my sewing machine out of my sewing room into the dining room so Mr. Joe doesn't get lonesome. Occasionally he comes over to see what I'm working on.

Today I'm going to focus on my second project for Henry Glass.  The key word here is FOCUS..  Sometimes I feel like a dog when it hears the word SQUIRREL!

So I'm going to try and not be "squirrely" today and work on just one thing.  All progress will stop over the weekend since our son and his family are coming for a visit.   I guess I will have to clean up my beautiful mess, and move it back into the sewing room before their arrival.  Snow is predicted, so the kids will have a great time.

Soon,
Lynn

Christmas Came Early

Hello Everyone,

Instead of making Christmas cookies, I've been making blocks. I think they look good enough to eat. Anyway, if I make my cookies too soon, I'll eat them all before Christmas!

This box of quilted goodness arrived from Moda on Wednesday.  The box was full of Nancy's Needle fabrics by Betsy Chutchian.  I knew the box was in transit, and then it was delayed by two days.  When the box finally appeared on my doorstep, everything came to a complete stop at the cabin. I caressed it, then folded and refolded each and every piece.  It is delicious!

I have big plans for this box!  If I start designing and making something now, maybe I'll have something done before the fabric is released in March.  It's really gorgeous and it is my style!

I have always loved Betsy's fabrics.  She has quite the eye for design and color.

Just a hint.....this block is going to make a beautiful, and unique border. The yellow in the center is from the Sarah's Story fabric line from Betsy.  That line is available now.

Today I have to finish wrapping and make my annual Christmas sugar cookies. If I don't get the cookies made for the kids, I may be getting coal in my stocking.

Snow is in the forecast for tomorrow, so I'd better get down to the store early today before the shelves become bare.  Sometimes, if you go mid-day, the lines extend into the aisles.

There are three football games today.....a trifecta of football fun!  Cookie making and wrapping packages.....life can't get much better than this.  I know some of you are rolling your eyes about now.  I can see them from here.   I love to wrap presents, and I think the wrapping is all part of the gift.  I also love to watch football. However, I can't just sit and watch.  I have to be doing something, so wrapping it is.

I hope you have a great last weekend before Christmas.

Lynn
