FOCUS

Hello Everyone,

You probably think I'm on a blogging vacation.  Not really, just busy doing quilting related things but not actually quilting.  This sign was at Quilting in the Garden and this sums up what I'm trying to do.....FOCUS on getting many loose ends tied.

I'm not frazzled....yet.  I do have a long to-do list.  First and foremost I finished the binding and hanging sleeve for Emilie Elizabeth last night.  I'll take pictures of her this week now that she can hang properly.

Here's a snapshot of my to-do list:

I'm putting a sales flyer together to go with Emilie while she's at Quilt Market.  I'm pouring over the quilt and documenting exactly how much of each Marcus Brothers fabric I used, and linking it to the pattern number in an Excel spreadsheet.  This will help me when I'm cutting the fabrics for the Emilie Elizabeth BOM at In Between Stitches which will begin in January.  It will also make a nice sales tool for other shops. FOCUS on the computer.

This week I have to re-write the pattern and reference the correct colors I used in the new quilt.  This isn't exactly a daunting task, but it takes time to get it right! FOCUS on details.

I'll be at the In Between Stitches booth on October 18th during Pacific International Quilt Festival (PIQF) demonstrating components and equations from my Patchwork Math book.  I'll put together a short presentation and make sure I have all of my components in a row.  FOCUS on a coherent sales pitch.

I'm also working on the details of my retreat at the end of October at Snowflake Lodge.  Maybe I should give the cabin a thorough cleaning before the 25 quilters arrive for a tour?  FOCUS on cobwebs.

I'm off to work this morning at the shop. FOCUS on customers.

I'm teaching tomorrow at the shop and have the lesson plan all put together.  FOCUS on students.

At the end of October, I'm going to slow down so my life doesn't get out of FOCUS!

Soon,
Lynn

P.S. Did you notice that blogging isn't on my list?  I'm may be silent for days at a time.  Mr. Joe would love that!

Emilie Elizabeth the 2nd is now quilted

Hello Everyone,

Between working, teaching quilting classes, and cheering at cross country meets, soccer games, and football games, I managed to get Emilie Elizabeth quilted.  I love her!  I marked the center section with a Frixion pen, connected the dots, then quilted a very tight stipple around the feathers.

A few stolen hours here and there and she's finally finished.....well almost.....don't forget the binding. Once the binding, hanging sleeve and label are sewn on, I'll take a picture of the whole quilt and nothing but the quilt.

Everything I quilt is free motion.  The only computer connected to my Handi Quilter is my brain, and that's a few megabytes short of a floppy disk!  I think of my long-arm as a riding lawn mower......I drive it manually to music the whole time I'm quilting.

The back shows off the density of the quilting.  I always, well almost always use Dream Wool batting.  I love the loft, especially around the applique.

Thank you Pati from Marcus Fabrics for sending me the fabric called Judie's Album Quilt to make this quilt.  I would love to go to Houston and see it hanging in your booth.  This year during Quilt Market, I will be hosting my quilting retreat at Snowflake Lodge.  Maybe next year Houston will be on my calendar.

Before quilt market in Houston, Emilie Elizabeth will be on display at the In Between Stitches booth #732 at Pacific International Quilt Festival in Santa Clara, CA.

I also, I want to thank my sister Gail for helping me complete the quilt and making my deadline with time to spare.  I still owe you the other half of a cookie!

Lynn

Nostalgic Christmas Pillow Class is in Session

Hello Everyone,

Yesterday I taught my Nostalgic Christmas Pillow class at In Between Stitches.  I so enjoyed meeting all of you and spending our day together.  The girls, and Bill worked hard all day long!  As you scroll through the pictures, it's hard to believe that the same pattern created so many different and unique variations.

Vivian finished her pillow and gave it to her mother immediately after class!  I wish I could have witnessed the gift giving.

There are going to be some great Christmas presents wrapped under trees this year!

Most of the group started with panels from Moda's Seasons Greeting or Sentiments fabric line.

This is a great use of panels or motifs which are easy to fussy cut and place in the center of a pillow.

Stephanie is making a very special pillow for her sister.  Stephanie's niece is playing the main role as baby Jesus in the Christmas play.  She printed a picture on Printed Treasures paper, sized it to the proper size, started adding borders and then double flying geese.  This is going to be a wonderful gift.

Several of the students completed all of the components to make the pillow, and they are ready to start assembly.  Click HERE for the tutorial which shows you how to make the double flying geese.  The lesson is also located under the Virtual Classroom tab at the top of my blog.

We had geese flying in and out of formation all around the room.

So what are you doing today?  Whatever it is, I hope it involves creativity.

Soon,
Lynn

P.S. Here's an update on my granddaughters first cross country meet last week.  Emily is surveying the course here prior to the race. This looked very daunting to me!

She finished strong!  We were so proud of her.  She will run in her second race this afternoon.  We will be there to cheer and support her every step of the way.
