Hello Everyone,
To border or not to border. As is, the quilt measures 39" x 39".
I need a little input here people. Since it's a sampler quilt, should I just put on a red binding and call it quits? Or make a border with components? Or put on a thin red inner border with a wider beige border? Blue border? Red border? Beige border with a ribbon running through it? I'm usually much more decisive and know exactly what I want to do. This quilt came together so quickly, I guess I didn't have time to think about it.
Have a great Sunday.
Soon,
Lynn
What a delightful sampler. It almost looks finished the way it is, so I get the dilemma about the border. However, if this is a quilt that is meant to showcase your components and how they can be used, I think they absolutely need to feature in a border setting as well. Might get a little busy, but isn't that what samplers are about?
ReplyDeleteI agree with Anne totally. :)
ReplyDeleteI like it just as it it and would then bind it with red. I think a "component-ed" border would detract from the blocks.
ReplyDeleteI would go without a border as I think the border would take away from the ribbon effect. I'm not keen on red unless it's a deep red.
ReplyDeleteYou already have a beautiful border here...I'd make a simple deep red strip and then a wider beige border because your darling borders would definitely distract from the components you're trying to feature. I agree with Jeanne & Sue

ReplyDeleteIts all very pretty. However, wondering if a simple red border maybe with scallops along the edge to "soften" the look might work. The red would be the frame for the quilt and everyone's eye would be drawn inward to the quilt blocks themselves.
ReplyDeleteI would put a 2" blue border that matches the blue in the center star. Then I would put a 4 inch border of the brown that is in the other border. This way you have framed the quilt. Problems could arise without further borders when quilting and you would be unhappy. Pretty quilt
ReplyDeleteChanged my mind. The 4 inch border should be the same fabric (brown) that is in the center block. This would make the quilt really pop. Not red, unless that is a mauve in the center. Hard to tell.
ReplyDeleteI vote for the double border, thin red and tan or ... ?
ReplyDeleteNow I'll go read the rest of the comments and see if I change my mind :-)
Love the blocks and I echo what Sue says!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to give you the input you was gave me, keep it simple and then quilt it til it sings! I'm leaning toward that rich red.
ReplyDeleteOnce...
DeleteI would audition a double border: thin 1 inch red then a wider
ReplyDelete2 1/2 inch blue (fabrics in center block). The quilt is busy enough already. The plane borders would showcase the quilt and draw your eye inward.
I think just a red binding: it's perfect as it is! The sashings end up looking like a border to me.
ReplyDeleteSmall inner border (red?) and wide big patterned border - Mary
ReplyDeleteI like it as is with just a red binding.
ReplyDeleteI like it as is and would just bind it in a dark brown to stop the eye.
ReplyDeleteI would put a binding on it. You have so much going on in the center you don't want to take away from it. It's beautiful!
ReplyDeleteJust the way it is, Lynn! I wouldn't want to take away from the wonderful border around each block!
ReplyDeleteCheers!
