Country Corners Begins Next Week

Hello Everyone,

It's time to get back to quilting!  We have little Mazey on a schedule......well, somewhat of a schedule.  Who knew I could run so fast across the room, scoop her up in my arms, and get her outside just in the nick of time!  We've renamed our deck the "poop deck"!

MARK YOUR CALENDARS for Tuesday, June 10th. My Country Corners online block of the month is going to begin.  I will post the cutting directions for this 9" block.  You don't have to sign up, this is a free program.  I do suggest that you have your copy of Patchwork Math close by since you will be needing one for the program. (So I guess it isn't free after all....but almost.) If you are interested, we also have the fabrics packs available HERE, which can be mailed to you each month. All of the fabric packs will contain enough fabric to make at least three blocks per month and they will all be along the line of reproduction fabrics.

You know I'm a scrappy quilter.  I have enough scraps to sink a battleship in my sewing room.  I love to rummage through my stash and see what I can come up with and create something beautiful.  So look through those stashes that I know you have, and select six fabrics that look great together.  For the first month you will be making the following quilting components:

(1) Square in a square
(4) Double Flying Geese
(4) Regular Flying Geese
(8) Half Square Triangles

There are endless possibilities to arrange the components into a nice looking block.  This block has the same components as the black and gold version, just a different arrangement.  I will show you several different arrangements every month.

Place your book order now, and it will be shipped to you this week.  The book contains the formulas to make the components any size you want.....so experiment.....make a larger block or a smaller block.  The whole reason for this BOM is to become a better quilter.  You will learn the formulas, learn the piecing techniques, and have fun selecting your fabrics.  I will be introducing new components each month, so by the end of the program, you will become experts making flying geese, quarter square triangles, and squares in a triangle....twelve different quilting components in all.

Here is dear little Mazey posing for her glamor shot.

As a point of reference, those are 6" blocks in the quilt.  Her paws are about 2" wide.  We have to watch her like a hawk when she's outside, since a hawk could swoop down and carry her off.  Luckily for us, she sleeps through the night.  There is NO way I'm taking her out in the woods in the dark.  Who knows what is lurking out there.....bears, mountain lions, coyotes, skunks and raccoons would terrorize both of us.  The last potty call is right before dark.  Anything after 9pm, you wait until morning Kiddo....and she does!

Soon,
Lynn

  2. That is the cutest puppy EVER! I worry about Charlie outside too. I looked out one day and there was a huge hawk sitting in the middle of my back yard! He could easily carry Charlie off (Charlie just weighs 10 pounds)! Lola, not so much. She is "big boned". Anyway, she is just adorable! I'll be making one of those blocks this weekend! I love your book! It makes everything so easy! XO

  5. Great post Lynn, your blocks look gorgeous and I'm into using up scraps and stash at the moment too. I've done all Quilt Sue's test ones without buying anything. Mazey is just so cute and your nightime woods so scary, I wouldnt' want to be out there. Take care.

  7. I'm sew looking forward to class! I'm going to finish what I started at the workshop.
You also have to worry able stranger danger with Mazey because if I saw her outside I'd pick her up and run! Give her a big kiss and a cuddle from me!

  8. Oh Lynn, she is so beautiful it just puts another lump in my throat. I hope she knows how lucky she is.
Do you have any yardage suggestions for those 6 stash fabrics?
Remember when we talked about playing with the light up wands in the dark and Joe said "Sure! Make it easier for the bears to find you!"?
