Input Needed

Hello Everyone,

Just when I thought I was finished with all of the blocks........

......only a few more pinwheels to make..........
......put on a border.........
......finished......right?.......WRONG!

If I continue with this quilt, just as it is and add a border, the finished size will be 74" x 74" approximately.

If I add another row of baskets and Ohio Star blocks, the finished size will be approximately 92" x 74".  More of a bed-sized quilt.

My flimsy finish date is Dec. 9th for the Preview Party at The Purple Orchid.  I could just add the pinwheels on the right side and stop production until after Christmas.  I'm not teaching this until March.....plenty of time to finish.  Gail, I need to have my sister Gail select the fabric sets for 16 more baskets!  While Gail selects, I'll cut and sew and together maybe we could make this happen!

What are your thoughts?  Is bigger better?  Is square better?  I'm usually very decisive, but this quilt has me waffling.  I'm definitely leaning to the larger size, but I will certainly entertain any brilliant ideas from blogland!  (I just did a spell check and the word bludgeoned came up for blogland....not even close!)

That's all for now, I have to go make some pinwheels!

Soon,
An Indecisive Lynn

  1. I love a bigger quilt. It's more useful at the slightly larger size, and it seems to serve more gracefully on a bed. This has gotten me in a load of heavy quilt trouble more than once though!

Now for the compliment: I adore those pinwheels in the setting triangles! Adorable, wonderful perfection!

    1. Thank you for your comment. You are a "no-reply" status so I can't respond to you with a personal email. So far the comments are urging me to make the quilt larger. The masses have spoken! Larger it is. Take care, Lynn

  4. I'm just tickled at how this quilt is evolving, Lynn! We're all so fortunate that you include us in your design process! I agree with you that adding another border and making it more of a bed sized quilt is the way to go. For me a rectangular quilt has better uses - you can use it on a bed or as a lap quilt. Whatever you decide - it's just stunning so far!
    Cheers!

  5. I think bigger is better. To put so much work into this quilt, I would want to show it off, and a bed-sized quilt would certainly show it to its best advantage. It is a gorgeous quilt, love those basket blocks.

  6. Larger....I think it is a beautiful quilt, but it will have more uses if it is larger....not much more work....LOL

  7. Beautiful love the colors and the little square in the center of the star blocks. I like smaller quilts, I would just add a border and have it square. I throw a smaller quilt on top of a neutral spread on my bed and change it seasonally and the hot guy in bed tosses the quilt off and chilly me pulls it over and everyone is happy and less wear and tear on the quilt.

  9. I know I am probably in the minority but I prefer a smaller quilt. I love a throw on the back of a couch or something smaller on the wall. Frankly I prefer aquilt folded on the end of a bed in case yu need a little extra in the night and this would be perfect for that.

  11. I'm not a fan of square quilts, so I say make it bigger and better! It's already beautiful!

  12. I say go big or go home. It's a great pattern and one that would be lovely on a bed. So nice!

  13. I am probably the wrong one to make a suggestion, cause I love lap quilts, and quilts folded at the bottom of a bed, or on a couch...so I would just finish it as it is....gorgeous!

  14. Oh, this is a marvelous, marvelous quilt for a bed size. It will be so beautiful draped on one! I vote for the extra row added. But I think I've missed something - what is this Preview Party at the Purple Orchid? If a flimsy is needed to decorate a bed, and you don't get the additional row finished by then, can you place it so that decorative pillows cover the unfinished portion?

  15. I'm not a lover of BIG quilts or square quilts, but I would call this one a finished as is. Just delightful.

  17. Lynn, I personally love a rectangle quilt for a bed or lap quilt. I feel square quilts are more for wall hangings.
What ever you choose it will be stunning I love the design and colours.
You and Gail are doing a great job..

  18. Go larger! Because a 74" square is a very awkward size; too large to be a good throw and too small to be a good bed quilt. This quilt has such fabulous piecing already that it deserves to be the real deal.

  19. I think bigger is better! That would be more useful at the larger size, whereas the square one wouldn't quite know if it was a bed quilt, lap quilt or what.

  20. I definitely think that it should be bed-sized and then you can lend it to me for a few years :)
    It will be beautiful!

    Are you snowed in?????
