Bursting My Buttons

Hello Everyone,

My buttons are bursting.....not from too much food over the Holidays.....but from the fact that I can finally tell you my Country Courthouse quilt is going to be featured in QuiltMania magazine this year!

I submitted a picture to the magazine last July, and I was notified in August that it was accepted for publication.

The nerves set in immediately after acceptance, because I had to either have it quilted or do it myself.  I spoke with an award-winning professional quilter, Jill Schumacher, and she said this quilt should be completely stitched in the ditch.  So that's what I did last fall.   It almost killed me.....but I can say with pride that this quilt is entirely designed, pieced and quilted by me.....all 81" x 81" of it!

As you recall, first I made Cute as a Button.  During the month of February I was pretty much snowed in, and all I did was make 9-patch, and Courthouse Steps blocks.  They were addicting.  I thought to myself, look at all the scraps I'm using.  Well those scraps multiplied like rabbits, and I had scraps all over the cabin and didn't make one dent in my stash.

Here's a good picture of all that "ditch" work.

The plans are still in the making, but I was asked if the editor, who lives in France, could come to the cabin in July to do a photo shoot!  It might be a couple of months before she plans her trip.  I will let you know when and if the photo shoot is going to happen.  Mr. Joe and I are looking around at everything that we think needs to be done prior to her visit.  Our cabin is an eclectic jumble of stuff that we've collected over the past 47 years.....and it all needs dusting and a good spit shine.

I have other designs in the works just begging me to finish them.  I will be on an accelerated quilting pace over the next few months.

Every morning I can't wait to get out of bed because I have so many projects that I want to work on.  I have my projects from all of the fabric Henry Glass & Co. sent me.

I got my borders on, but I'm not ready for the big reveal yet.

I have all of the Nancy's Needle fabric that Moda sent to me.  I'm surrounded in gorgeous fabrics and fun projects.  I feel like I've hit the quilting jackpot.  I moved my sewing machine out of my sewing room into the dining room so Mr. Joe doesn't get lonesome. Occasionally he comes over to see what I'm working on.

Today I'm going to focus on my second project for Henry Glass.  The key word here is FOCUS..  Sometimes I feel like a dog when it hears the word SQUIRREL!

So I'm going to try and not be "squirrely" today and work on just one thing.  All progress will stop over the weekend since our son and his family are coming for a visit.   I guess I will have to clean up my beautiful mess, and move it back into the sewing room before their arrival.  Snow is predicted, so the kids will have a great time.

Soon,
Lynn

  9. I have yet to see a quilt you designed that wasn't spectacular. This is another one and many - many should have been fighting over who was the lucky one to showcase it.
