Quilting at Cloth and Quilts

Hello Everyone,

It has been a busy week of teaching for me at Sew'n Wild Oaks.  On Wednesday, I spent the day at Cloth and Quilts in Turlock teaching Butterscotch Baskets.  Susan, one of my students from previous classes brought in her version of Country Charmer.  It is incredibly beautiful.

Such talent.  In fact, Susan is being recognized for her talent as she was selected to be the featured artist at the Sierra Quilt Guild Show in Sonora Sept. 17th and 18th.

Susan is also making my Grammy Squares pattern.  I love her clear, solid colors and the gray separator strips.  I can't wait to see this one completed!

The girls in the class got right to work on their Butterscotch Baskets quilts.  Some of them purchased kits which are available by calling Cloth and Quilts at 209-632-3225.  The gals at the shop put kits together which are identical to my original.  If you call and order a kit, tell them Lynn sent you.

A couple of the girls are selecting their own fabrics for the blocks.  Bravo!!  I love to see my patterns changed to reflect the quilters own style.

Sandra purchased a kit, but she's changing up the look of the blocks her own way.  She cut and made the parts and pieces for the little basket block, and placed the pieces on the block layout sheet.  Once she had everything just the way she wanted it.....

She stitched the block together.

I love the touch of blue in the fabric line.

I feel so lucky to be able to spend the day surrounded by beautiful quilts and beautiful people.  Yes Judy, that means YOU!  But Cindy is smarter.  Wink, Wink.  You girls are so funny and made me laugh.

Soon,
Lynn

P.S.  If you don't want to purchase an entire Butterscotch Basket kit all at once, Stitchin' Heaven is offering it as a BOM beginning in November.  Click HERE for more information.

Country Charmer in the Country

Hello Everyone,

Yesterday was a great day at Cloth and Quilts in Turlock.  The girls arrived with bins of fabric, and a cheery attitude and dug right in to learning how to make Country Charmer.

Barbara won a basket full of fat quarters which she decided to use in her quilt.  The pile went from this....

 ....to this

....then this

....and then she prepared two more blocks on her block layout sheets.

Judy started with this beautiful selection of fabrics.

In no time, she had her pieces cut out and ready for sewing.

Her sashing is going to be black and grey.....perfect for her blocks.

Mindy had a tower of Kim Diehl's Sunday Best fabrics which she combined with additional fabrics in the shop, and prepared many blocks.

The Kim Diehl fabrics are a great choice to make this quilt.  Now why didn't I think of that?

Carolyn has seven granddaughters, and she brought in zip lock bags full of pastels left over from past quilts that she's made for the girls.  This quilt is a perfect use of scraps and is going to be so sweet.

Linda had two bins full of 3 Sisters Christmas fabrics.  We are kindred spirits since I have many of the same fabrics.  I admire her quilting precision and organization.

Susan took this class from me last year, and she FINISHED all of her beautiful blocks!  She also made additional blocks to increase the size of the quilt.

She made all of her sashing in class, and started in on some power sewing to get all of the rows together.

Susan selected the perfect fabric for her sashing.

You girls were so sweet and made me feel right at home in your "home" away from home.  How lucky you are to have access to such a vibrant quilt shop with a wonderful selection of fabrics, blocks of the month, and many clubs and classes.  A true gathering place.  I'm looking forward to many return trips to see you again in future classes.  Thank you all for the wonderful day.

Soon,
Lynn

Country Charmer Finish

Hello Everyone,

I love to receive emails and pictures of quilts finished by you, my readers.  I adore seeing what changes you've made to patterns and how you interpret my designs.

Sharon, sent me a picture of her outstanding Country Charmer.  If you look closely, you will see lots of plaid!!!

It makes my day when I get emails like this.

"Well here it is... as you can see I enlarged it slightly as I want to hang it during the Christmas season and want it to fill a large wall area.  Thank you so much for this lovely pattern and the fabulous detailed instructions and perfect page of block piece placement.  You make the construction of this quilt so much easier than could otherwise be"

Sharon, I LOVE your quilt.  Well done from the fabric selection to the final borders.  Thank you so much for making my pattern and sending me pictures of your gorgeous quilt.

Soon,
Lynn

P.S.  I have an extensive tutorial on my blog showing you step by step how to make this quilt.  Click HERE for the tutorial.  Click HERE if you are interested in purchasing the pattern.  I am also teaching a Country Charmer class at Cloth and Quilts in Turlock on February 16, 2016.  There are a few openings available.  Check out the class HERE.

Ladies of the Lake Quilt Show

Hello Everyone,

I'm busily getting my booth ready for the Ladies of the Lake Quilt Show in Lakeport, CA this weekend.  They made a beautiful, and larger version of my Country Charmer pattern for their opportunity quilt.  I think I'm going to have to buy some raffle tickets!

I will be doing a half-hour demonstration each day on how to make this quilt.

The quilt show will be held at the Lake County Fairgrounds in Lakeport, which is by Clear Lake.  The location is very close to the devastating Valley Fire.  It is my understanding that 6 of the guild's members lost their homes in the fast moving fire.

The smoke has cleared, the roads are all open, and the show must go on!  Thelma and Louise, (Gail and I) will hit the road early tomorrow morning to drive our goodies to the show. I hope to see some of you there to support another worthy cause.

Soon,
Lynn

Sew'n Wild Oaks Class is in Session

Hello Everyone,

I've been quietly working away the past few days, filling in at the shop and teaching....no time for blogging, and I don't have anything new to show.  But my girls have been extremely productive!

Jeanne is making Country Charmer.  She's a girl after my own heart with her scrappy blocks.

Here are her pieces on the block layout sheet before.....

.....and after.

The fabrics and blocks sing beautifully together.

Barbara has finished ALL of her blocks for Grammy Squares!  She started sewing them together in class yesterday.  She'll be finished soon!

Pat is working on her pastel Grammies.  I can't wait to see this one!

Karen has 30 blocks completed.

The use of stripes makes a wonderful design on this block.

Patti finished this gorgeous quilt top and it is ready for the machine quilter.  This was a year-long technique class.

Pictures just can't do this one justice.

Patti is also playing tiddlywinks with her little hexie grapes for Once Upon a Vine.

Marti has a excellent start to her baskets for Once Upon a Vine.

Jeanne finished her Once Upon a Vine!  I tell you, my girls are all finishers.....beautiful finishers.

Wendy has been bitten by the Dresden basket bug and is creating several beautiful baskets for a quilt.

Love her flowers and leaves.

Cindy is working on Country Corners and created these two blocks.  She has an absolutely delicious box of fabrics to choose from.  I drool every time I see them!

Marti finished an American Jane kit.  This is going to be her new tablecloth.  I couldn't let food near this one!

Doris is making an adorable little vase filled with Dresdens.  She did a great job with her fussy cutting.

Here's the beginning of Susan's beautiful bag.  You will be seeing the finished product soon.

There is such a feeling of companionship and love in the classroom.  The walls are beautifully decorated and it is one "happy place" of creativity.  I wish all of you could have the experience of spending the day with my girls.  They are the best!

Soon,
Lynn
