Sewn Wild Oaks Class is in Session

Hello Everyone,

I have lots of pictures for you this morning brought to you by the girls who were Sew'n their Wild Oaks in the classroom at In Between Stitches yesterday.

Judy made block #4 for Country Corners. This is a great looking block, especially with the little dot of plaid in the center.

I went over the directions to make the setting blocks for the Country Corners quilt and Judy finished one to add to her beautiful block collection.

I always have my girls test out the block cutting directions before I post them, so they are a month ahead of everyone else.  Susan made a beautiful block for next month.  She didn't find any oopsies in my directions!

Here are Susan's gorgeous blocks.

Isabelle's perfect block #4 all ready to be stitched together.

Doris finished her block #3.  I like the way she changed up the layout.

This is Doris' block #1 so far.  She almost finished it before the end of class.

Paula has her parts and pieces in this wonderful block organizer!  It is perfect to take to class.

Suzanne is making wonderful progress on her 6" blocks.  They are really something to see in person.  I love the way the Courthouse Steps blocks are bringing it all together.  Incredible!

Suzanne also showed us her Heartfire flimsy.   The next time you see this is will be quilted and bound.  Suzanne is a finisher.

Kathy is working on her Harvest of Hope barn.  I love her roof!  Her purple pumpkin just sparkles.

Isabelle is working on her sunflower for her Harvest of Hope quilt.  She has a wonderful selection of yellows that she is going to incorporate.

Patti is working on her witches house for October Magic.  I LOVE her selection of fabrics for the window and door....PERFECT!

Gail has ALL of her 120 baskets made for her For the Love of Baskets!  She is stitching the little spacer bars between the baskets and she has all of her rows labelled......very organized. This one is going to be a beauty and I can't wait to see her progress.

Wendy is using her Patchwork Math book to make borders around this adorable panel.  We worked on the math yesterday, so she knows exactly what she needs to do and how many blocks she needs to make.

Suzanne started stitching her hexie grapes together for Once Upon a Vine.  Her clusters are going to look good enough to eat.

Suzanne also brought in her finished October Magic!  This will be decorating her home for Halloween for many years to come.  The machine quilting by Beth Hummel was amazing on this one too!

What can I say about my girls other than WOW!  What a great way to spend a day.....in the quilting classroom with friends.  There was laughter, singing, whistling, clapping, talking, story telling and great companionship.  My girls ROCK!

Soon,
Lynn

P.S.  Please check out the Marcus Mentions Blog HERE.  They mentioned ME and showed a picture of Emilie Elizabeth using their fabrics.  That was a big time shout out and I really appreciated it.

Sew'n Wild Oaks Class is in Session

Hello Everyone,

The following quilted loveliness is brought to you by the girls of Sew'n Wild Oaks. Yesterday we hit the eye candy jackpot.....again.  These girls are amazing!

Paula signed up for the UFO program through In Between Stitches and finished Party in the Garden.  The details she added are phenomenal.

Every petal and French knot is made to perfection....and the fussy cutting....fabulous.

We all marveled at each at every block.  Well done my dear!

My sister Gail also signed up the UFO program and finished her Nostalgic Christmas quilt!  We all had another chance to oohhh and aahhhh!  What a great way to celebrate the Holidays with this quilt on display.

Perfect, perfect fabric for the flange.  Gail enjoys selecting her fabrics, and you can see that reflected in her quilts.

Kathy is following along with my Country Corners BOM and just look at these beautiful blocks!  She has a wonderful stash of fabrics left over from other projects from clothing made for her granddaughters to quilting projects.  She is certainly putting it to good use!  She liked one of the blocks on the cover of the book, and made one on her own.....without any help.

Country Corners blocks were popping up all around the classroom walls.

It is so much fun for me to see the different block variations.

Gail is now working on Winterset.  She said how much fun it was to switch to blues now instead of the green and red fabrics.

Wendy is adding Ohio Star blocks and flying geese around this adorable panel.  It is going to be so cute!  Wendy is new to quilting and she has jumped right in with both feet.  Now she is totally submerged in the world of quilting and loves it!

Susan is making two blocks at the same time for Country Corners.  Same components.....

......different layout, wonderful fabrics.

Suzanne is really putting the Patchwork Math book through its paces!  I've always said I learn from my students.......and yesterday I learned so much.  Suzanne is making the Country Corners blocks 6" instead of 9".  She's good at math and resized it all down.  I always have my girls work on the blocks a month before I release the cutting directions to the world to shake out any bugs or cobwebs .  In block #3, Suzanne wanted to make irregular sized Flying Geese.  We realized the formula in the book doesn't work for a "goose" that is irregular with the construction method that I show in the book.  In most Flying Geese, the width is twice the amount of the height 6 x 3.....4 x 2..... 3 x 1-1/2....you get the picture.  But the formula will not work if you make a goose that finishes at 3-1/2 x 1-1/4, an irregular size. Suzanne and I were ready to hit The Ale House prior to happy hour as we tried calculation after calculation. To make a long story short.....stick with a proportional "goose" and you will not have to hit the liquor cabinet! (But it was 5 o'clock somewhere.)

So there you have it.  Another wonderful day in the classroom with a great group of quilters who constantly amaze me.  Well done by all!

Lynn

Olympic Style Quilting

Hello Everyone,

The following "eye candy" is brought to you by the Sew'n Wild Oaks girls who come to In Between Stitches the 2nd Tuesday of the month to chat and sew their hearts out!  They are a phenomenal group of ladies and they are finishers.  This is Barbara B. with her  fabulous Taos quilt by Whirligig Designs.

Yesterday I felt like I hit the quilting mega-millions lottery when the girls started unpacking all of their totes and boxes full of quilted goodies.  Jollyne brought in her Harvest of Hope finished top.

She added wonderful details to her little scarecrow.  I loved the fringe coming out of his pant legs and sleeves.

Barbara G. showed us her gorgeous and completely finished Minglewood quilt.  The Minglewood book is available at the shop.  Barbara completed all of the binding thanks to the Olympics!  This quilt was a BOM offered through In Between Stitches.

Barbara B. finished her barn on her Harvest quilt.  I love the cross-stitched B on the barn.....so clever!

Kathy finished an adorable heirloom pillowcase for her granddaughter.  The details and Kathy's precise stitches are a work of art.

Suzanne's October Magic is becoming magical!

Love the blue shoes!

Carol is determined to finish her flowers for Summer's Blush/Winter's Warmth.  You are almost finished Carol!

Jan brought in her harvest of pumpkins.  Loves the plaids!

We had lots of little baskets from Kaye all cut and ready to be sewn from her block layout sheet.

Jan's colorful baskets started to decorate the design wall.

Gail makes her baskets four at a time from her layout sheets.  They went from this stage to.....

finished!  All of the baskets are for For The Love of Baskets.

Barbara is also making baskets for a Springtime version.

Paula is designing a house....look at all of her blueprints!  Actually, she's preparing all of her applique pieces on freezer paper for her Harvest quilt.  I think she's done!

Susan is making a gorgeous leaf quilt.  Her collection of  batiks was to die for!

Here are all of my girls hard at work.

We stop just long enough to eat, and to admire, encourage and support each other.  It takes a village to build a quilt.....this classroom of quilters have finished enough quilts to decorate an entire city! My girls are the best!  I've totally run out of adjectives so I have to sign off for now and replenish my supply of adjectives for next month!

Lynn
