The Needle Nellies Quilt Show

Hello Everyone,

Gail and I just returned from the Needle Nellies Quilt Show in Georgetown, CA.  All proceeds from the show and ticket sales for the opportunity quilt go directly to the Volunteer Fire Department.  I've always said that California is always shaking like a wet dog or we are burning up.  No matter what calamity, the Volunteer Fire Department is always there to help.

Our adventure started when we pulled up to the American River Inn, our home for the night.

I can highly recommend the Inn for a quiet getaway destination.

We met up with the Needle Nellies for dinner at the newly renovated Georgetown Hotel.

We had a great dinner out in the patio area.  The weather couldn't have been any nicer.

We were up early and headed over to start setting up for the outdoor show.  This is the Nellies award winning opportunity quilt, Toyland Tree.

Some of the girls in the Nellies applique group made their own version of Toyland Tree too!

I had a ball seeing their quilts!

I was just a babe in Toyland looking at their creativity.

 They were all spectacular.

This quilter didn't want another Christmas quilt, but she did want to make a baby quilt with the blocks.  Too cute!

As the featured artist, the volunteer firemen and the Nellies helped me set up in the gazebo area.  This panorama gives you a good idea of all my space.

I demonstrated Patchwork Math throughout the entire day while Gail manned the cash register. I could never do this by myself.

Here is just a sampling of quilts made by the talented Nellies.

As always, the Needle Nellies rolled out the red carpet and treated us like royalty. Thank you girls for being so special and making our trip to Georgetown so memorable.  Your efforts on behalf of the Volunteer Fire Department, make your community safer.  You are all a blessing to your quaint, little town.

Soon,
Lynn

Georgetown Quilt Show 2015

Hello Everyone,

The last few days have been a whirlwind of activity and I'm finally getting around to posting the pictures from the quilt show in Georgetown, CA from last Saturday.  It was a beautiful day for a show.

Crystal blue sky, and no smoke from the fires that are ravaging California.  The set up began promptly at 7am.  Volunteer firemen, Needle Nellies, and their husbands have their assigned tasks, and the show is ready well before the 10am start time.

As the featured artist, I set up in the gazebo area.  By afternoon, Gail and I were very glad to be in the shade as the sun climbed higher in the sky, and the temperature heated up.

I was playing around with the panoramic setting on my phone, and was able to get a nice shot of most of the inside.

The 13 Needle Nellies outdid themselves this year.  The quilts were fabulous. Gail and I had a chance to see everything before the crowd arrived......and they showed up in large numbers to support the Needle Nellies and the volunteer fire department.

 Vintage Valentine quilts.....so pretty.

This year's opportunity quilt was Woodland Christmas by Bunny Hill Designs.  ALL of the proceeds from raffle ticket sales, go directly to the Volunteer Fire Department. Over the past several years, the Nellies have donated over $50,000!!!

Next year.......insert drumroll here, the Opportunity Quilt is Toyland Tree by Sew'n Wild Oaks....that would be ME!

The incredible quilt the Nellies made brought a glisten of a tear to my eye.  One lucky winner is going to have an heirloom quilt gracing their home Christmas after Christmas.  I'll be posting a link so you can start buying your tickets now!  With your help, we can make this the biggest year yet for donations to the Volunteer Fire Department.

Thank you Nellies for inviting Gail and me back to your great show.  We look forward to seeing our friends in Georgetown every year. You girls do so much good for your mountain community. You are the BEST!

Soon,
Lynn

The Georgetown Quilt Show

UPDATE - 9/17/14 - 3PM  I just received a call from the Needle Nellies and they made the decision to cancel their quilt show.  The smoke is too thick, and roads are closing around them.  Please help support their Volunteer Fire Department by buying a ticket to win the Enchanted Autumn quilt.  Tickets are $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00.  What a bargain!  This show is their main fundraiser for the year......and they are losing the chance to raise money.  You can email Lynn Tubbe at:  blynn2b@internet49.com to purchase a ticket or FIVE.    This group of 13 quilters make their community a better, and safer place to live.  They are a wonderful, hardworking group of women who I'm proud to call friends.  Please help me support their efforts and support their Volunteer Fire Department. ~~Lynn Wilder

Hello Everyone,

I've been very quiet on my blog this week since I've been preparing for the quilt show in Georgetown which might not take place this Saturday.

Those of us living in California are used to natural disasters.   We are either shaking like a wet dog....(ask the residents in Napa about this.)  Or we are burning down and we don't have any water to fight the fires.  Right now we are burning down and my friends, The Needle Nellies in Georgetown, are experiencing this frightening situation first hand.

There's a large fire burning way too close to their community.  Several of the Needle Nellies are on voluntary evacuation status.

The Needle Nellies are a small group of quilters that have raised over $40,000 from tickets sales from their opportunity quilt and annual quilt show.  All of the money collected is donated to their volunteer fire department.  Their volunteer fire department is now on the front lines fighting the King fire that is threatening their small, mountain community.

Tomorrow, the Nellies are going to make the decision on whether or not the quilt show can still take place. I urge you all to go to the Needle Nellies website HERE and purchase a ticket for their award-winning Enchanted Autumn opportunity quilt designed by Verna Mosquera.  The money goes to such a good cause, and the girls may be losing their best opportunity to raise funds this weekend.

I'll give you an update tomorrow once I find out the status of the show.  In this case, "the show must go on" doesn't apply.

Soon,
Lynn

Georgetown Show Part Two

Hello Everyone,

The following parade of quilts is brought to you by 18 quilting diva's called the Needle Nellies.  My oh my this group is prolific.  This is just a small sampling of the 80 quilts made during the past year. Each of the girls made a quilted rendition of themselves.....so cute.

Enjoy!

The Needle Nellies are incredible quilters and amazing people.  They welcome you to their community with open hands and hearts.  I'm looking forward to seeing all of you next year along with all of the quilts that you make throughout the coming year.

Today is a very special day.......Quilt Sue arrives in San Francisco this afternoon!  I just tracked her flight and she's approaching Greenland as of this writing.  (I feel like I'm tracking Santa Claus on Christmas Eve!)  She's flying into Vancouver with a connecting flight to San Francisco. We've been talking about this trip for months and the day is finally here.

Tomorrow I'm teaching Patchwork Math at Alden Lane Nursery which is the beginning of Quilting in the Garden festivities.  Sue is teaching on Thursday.  Her book signing for Pick Four will be this Saturday at the In Between Stitches booth.  Come on by the show to meet Sue on Saturday. There is still time to sign up for her Thursday class HERE.

I've got to run now and finish everything on my to-do list before we head off to the airport.  First things first, I'm planning our menus for the next few days.  I don't want Sue's meals made by the Colonel or a clown or a character named Jack, so it's off to the store I go.

Soon,
Lynn
