Three Days of Activity

Hello Everyone,

I closed out the year with a BANG last week with three days of lectures and workshops in the Sacramento area.

I had a lecture at the Golden Valley Quilt Guild on Thursday night.

The ladies laughed heartily at one of my quilting stories.

Friday, I had a break before my next event on Friday night, so Gail and I went shopping in beautiful downtown Folsom, CA.

It was a gorgeous Fall day reminiscent of our trips to the East Coast to do some 'leaf peeping' with our mom.

We did some major retail therapy and Gail ended up with our purchases on her lap.  When I do a lecture, I have five LARGE bags of quilts, about 20 in all.  I have totes of products and patterns.  My projector and overhead camera, screen, and rounder to hold the patterns.  Not to mention our suitcases.  Mr. Joe said we had no room for anything we purchased, but he forgot about Gail's lap.

Friday night we drove up to Lincoln, CA and I spoke at Sew Katie Jean quilt shop.

Shirley made their sample quilt for Bridle Path, and she did an incredible job!
This is a darling shop!

I spoke about the inspiration behind Bridle Path and did a short tutorial.  Tammy, the owner of the shop, made a wonderful pot of tortellini soup and a large salad.  We ate well and had a fun evening.

Saturday, I taught a Calico Cottages workshop for the guild.  Here are a few of the cottages that were 'built' during the class.

We left the class around 2:30 as a major storm was rolling over the Sacramento Valley and into the mountains.  We drove through some intense downpours, wind, and ponding water on the roadways.  I was so glad I have a big, heavy car to navigate my way home.  We arrived home in the dark and I've never been so glad to see my driveway!

We met an incredible group of quilters last week.  I love meeting you, chatting with you, hugging you, and being around you.  I'm doing fewer lectures and classes as I'm so busy designing and quilting. I find that I miss getting out with quilters and hearing from you and seeing what you do.

Now, all of the prepping for Thanksgiving begins.  We are going to have a small gathering here at the cabin.  It just didn't work out to gather the entire family together.  Busy schedules, college kids, sharing grandkids with other grandparents and life in general got in the way of being together.  We will all be together at Christmas, and I'm looking forward to being with everyone.

As my gift to you, I'm having a sale on my Etsy site.  I usually only have 2 sales a year, and now is your chance to get in on the 20% discount in my shop.  Click HERE to take advantage of the sale.

Happy Thanksgiving to you all.  I'm so thankful to have you reading my blog, meeting up with me at events, and sharing your projects with me.  You all bring a smile to my face, and happiness to my heart.

Soon,
Lynn

Three Events

 Hello Everyone,

I'll be at three events this week, so I've been busy preparing for them.  First up is a lecture for the Golden Valley Quilt Guild at St. Marks Lutheran Church 7869 Kingswood Dr. Citrus Heights, Ca. tomorrow night.

Friday night, I'll be at Sew Katie Jean quilt shop in Lincoln, CA.  I will be talking about the inspiration behind my Bridle Path quilt and showing a few tips and tricks for making the quilt.  That event starts at 5:30. You can see the sign-up details on their website.

Friday, I will be teaching Calico Cottages at a workshop for the Golden Valley Guild. This is my final event for the year, then I'm free to get ready for the Holidays!

I'll be back home at the cabin on Saturday night, enjoying a glass of wine and celebrating a successful and very busy year for Sew'n Wild Oaks.

Hopefully some of you will be able to attend one of the events.

Soon,
Lynn

Getting Caught Up

Hello Everyone,

As always, it was a busy week.  I left early Monday morning and drove to Paradise for my guild lecture on Tuesday, and workshop on Wednesday.  I met up with my sister Gail at the motel, then we headed to Debbie's Quilt Shop in Paradise.  I must be a fabric whisperer since this beautiful selection just happened to follow me home.  I'll be cutting this up for kits and towers for my next show.

We arrived at the location for the morning lecture and we got a chance to view the opportunity quilt made by the Ridge Quilter's Guild.  I was so honored when they selected my Heritage pattern as their 2018 opportunity quilt.  If you are interested in purchasing tickets and the chance to win this heirloom quilt, you can contact Ginger.  Her email address is:  gmedbery@hughes.net

There was a full house for my lecture.  All of the women were so kind and welcoming.  There were representatives from the Chico, Oroville and Red Bluff guilds too.  We met so many wonderful people and renewed past friendships.

I got a good chuckle when a woman came up to me after the talk and said I lived up to all the hype!  I spoke at the guild four years ago, and so much of my quilting story has changed and expanded.  This guild gave me my jumpstart into the lecture circuit and I will be forever grateful.  As I told them in my talk, growing up in Paradise gave me roots, their guild gave me wings.

Wednesday I had another full house for the Patchwork Math workshop.  Sorry, no pictures of their work.  We didn't have the space to put up a design wall.  You will just have to take my word for it that the girls were very creative and a fun group.

I was really keeping my eye on the weather as a storm was predicted.....a cold storm with low snow levels.  I was going to spend Wednesday night in Paradise, but thought better of it and headed for the cabin after the workshop since I didn't want to get "snowed out".   I arrived home safely much to my relief and Mr. Joe's relief.....Mazey too.  We had about 5" of snow and the temperature has been down to 14 degrees.  Now we have Sierra cement.

I finished up all of the accounting for the week and found some time to quilt.  The little Eagle's Nest blocks have been so much fun to make.

Next week I'm headed to Livermore to teach at In Between Stitches on Monday and Tuesday.  I get to see "my girls"!!  I'm so excited because we have so much fun together.  I also get to see all of my kids and grandkids.  We'll go see the little boys play flag football and we'll watch a baseball practice.  As you can see, it's another full week of activity.

Lynn

River City Quilt Guild Workshop

Hello Everyone,

I'm still getting caught up with posts from my events over the past two weeks.  On September 19th and 20th I was at the River City Quilt Guild in Sacramento.

Here is a sample of what the quilters created during the Patchwork Math workshop.

Their blocks looks great together in a collage.  We have a quilt!

Nondra was a great sport and let me take a picture of her hair next to her block.  Doesn't this look great!  She is new to quilting and selected fabrics that resembled water....and they did.

Korey made the smallest flying geese and double flying geese ever made in one of my classes.  He got extra credit in class for these cuties!

This is an example of what can be created with a Y-square.  It is so versatile.

The night before the workshop, I gave a mini Patchwork Math workshop to the entire guild!  No pressure here.....none whatsoever!  The facility and crowd was a bit daunting.  They chuckled in all the right places and were very generous with their applause.

I'm still playing catch up with my posts.  More to come over the next few days.  Have you noticed that I have not had time to quilt?  Nothing....nada. I'm missing my sewing machine terribly.

Soon,
Lynn

Patchwork Math Was In Session

Hello Everyone,

It's been a busy couple of days with a lecture to the Flying Needles Quilt Guild in Woodland on Thursday, and a workshop on Saturday.  Here are a few pictures from the creative quilters at the workshop.

I present the formulas and techniques for one component at a time.  You can see everyone taking good notes while I'm presenting.  Then they go off to their machines and make the designated component for that hour.

Once they've made several of the components, they start playing on the design wall.

From beginning to advanced quilters, there is always something new to learn in this class.

We had a few "aahaa" moments, and there were light bulbs going on in the class.

This was an absolutely delightful group of women.  Gail and I thoroughly enjoyed the time we spent with this quilt guild.  You were good quilters which made our job an easy one.

I really enjoy spending good, quality time with quilters.  I love to hear their stories, see pictures of their quilting style, and watch them add new knowledge to their quilting toolbox.

Gail and I were so warmly received by the guild members.  We look forward to a return trip to the Flying Needles Guild in Woodland.

Soon,
Lynn
