October Magic

 Hello Everyone,

It is so enjoyable to bring the Fall quilts out of storage and display them around the cabin.

I put a varied number of colors into my Autumn quilts.

Oh my, the house landed on the wicked witch!

The mailbox was Mr. Joe's idea.

Now look at Paula's quilt.  It is spook-tacular!

The level of detail is over the top gorgeous.

The careful consideration given to the selection of each fabric is truly appreciated.

I love seeing my designs come to life through the interpretation of another quilter.  Paula created a masterpiece of perfection.

Have some fun decorating your home today.  I'm late with my decorating this year and will be doing a streamlined version this year since I'm getting ready for my last retreat of the year beginning on Sunday.  Yikes, I'd better sign off and get to work!

Soon,
Lynn

October Magic

 Hello Everyone,

It was a dark Halloween night......in Paula's version of my October Magic pattern.  It is "Spook-tacular"!

I've had the opportunity to watch Paula work on this pattern and watch her painstakingly select all the right fabric for each and every element in the quilt.  She took it to a whole new level, and made an incredible wall hanging to give to her daughter, Molly.

Paula's embellishments add so much to make this scene come to life.

The wall hanging was artfully machine quilted by Dianne Schweickert from Livermore, CA.  On occasion when I'm too busy to quilt one of my quilts, I entrust them to Dianne because I know she does excellent work.  This is a job well done by both of you!

For the past couple of weeks, I've been preparing for my 3rd, and last Sew'n Wild Oaks retreat which begins a week from today, October 24th.  I'm looking forward to seeing "my girls" again. Some, I haven't seen for two years.  It will be like a family reunion.

I've done my best version of a rain dance to put an end to this horrific fire season.  The long range forecast is showing rain before and during the retreat.  We will have the fireplace going every morning while we enjoy our morning coffee.  This is a picture of Irene on the left and Paula on the right.  They will both be at the next retreat, and we will all get to see Paula's creation in person.

Two year ago during my last retreat in October, our power was turned off for 7 days due to extreme fire weather.  Many of the girls staying at motels and in cabins didn't have any power.  In most cases that meant no hot water too.  Laurie and Nancie were such good sports, and wore these hats all day to cover their hair.  They will be at the next retreat too.

This quartet of Deborah, Karen, Irene, and Paula again will also be at the retreat.  Deborah flew in from Michigan to be with people she'd never met before.  I swear it was like she had always been part of the family, and fit in beautifully.  The girls are wearing their matching aprons made by Candace.

My sister Gail, and Candace will also be at the next retreat.

Since the power had been out for days, most if not all of the restaurants in town were closed when the girls pulled into town.  Deborah and I decided to open a soup kitchen at the cabin for those coming to town the day before the retreat. Not only can Deborah quilt, she can also cook!  Karen also brought a big pot of soup.  That night we ate like kings!

This is what I mean when I said the next retreat will be like a family reunion.  I can't wait to see the girls and welcome some new faces.  Nothing like short notice, but I do have a couple of openings.

The lake will be a little dreary this year in the rain, but nothing can dampen the spirits of the quilters  inside Snowflake Lodge with their machines humming, and their laughter bubbling up throughout the room.

Soon,

Lynn

Updates

Hello Everyone,

My sister, and our friend Paula have been up here in the mountains this week for a very mini quilting retreat.  Paula is working on my October Magic pattern, and is making this pattern her own with many special touches. I love her dark background, and leaf fabric in the foreground.

This is Paula's very special reverse applique ghost.  I love to see my patterns changed, and in different colorways.  I always say to make it your own.

Here's my original pattern.  It's a fun one to make, and I enjoy having it on display every Fall.

My sister has her Country Sunshine quilt almost all together.  The picture doesn't do this one justice at all.  She has her border cut out, and she's ready to have this flimsy in the finished column.  Gail selected this colorway to match her couch and her living room.  It is very rich looking.

I've made this quilt twice in two different colorways.

Gail also has her Once Upon a Vine quilt together.  Again, I love to see quilters put their own spin on my patterns.

Her blocks are always very precise and perfect!  This is a fun block to make.

I have an applique center in my original pattern featuring bunches of grapes.

This quilt has a lot of open space that can be filled with beautiful quilting.

Here I am last Friday at my QuiltMania magazine signing at Quail's Nest Quilt Company in Sonora.  It was so much fun seeing so many of you!  I really appreciate you coming by to see me.

You may think I've been "bone idle" lately, but that is far from the truth.  There are many wonderful, quilting things swirling in the background that I can talk about soon. 2021 is stacking up to be a very busy year for me in the quilting world.

Soon,
Lynn

Sew'n Wild Oaks Class is in Session

Hello Everyone,

The following phenomenal quilts and projects are proudly brought to you by my Sew'n Wild Oaks girls.  They have been busy!!  Remember, they are finishers.  Kathy has been diligently working on her Toyland Tree quilt, and it is going to be decorating her home for Christmas.

Kathy personalized her little baby doll with smocking, embroidery, lace and other embellishments which make her look so real.

Her quilt is incredible.....a real heirloom!

Suzanne is working on UFO's and isn't this one cute and timely.

I started another Holiday Treats Tablerunner.  This is a pattern by Laura Nownes.  It is so much fun to make the little presents and machine applique the little plaid, polka dot, and checked bows in place.

Cindy is finishing up two Nostalgic Christmas pillows.  They are so cheerful.

The next grouping of pictures are all made from my Country Corners blocks using the Patchwork Math book.  Here are Kathy's blocks which she made from scraps from all different projects.

Barbara brought in her tabletopper that she designed to fit an 8-sided table using a variety of Christmas fabrics.

This is my Country Corners scrappy version.....more blocks will be added this week.

This is Paula's adorable block.

This is Susan's light and airy block.

Gail has half of her Winterset sewn together!  This is a labor of love.  Gail chose to bypass the applique and make the quilt larger by adding lots of extra blocks.  You'll be seeing more of this one as it grows and grows.

Isabelle designed a quilt for the coach of her daughter's ice skating team.  Each block represents and aspect of the team from bake sales to, different skating formation, to ice skates, to a first place trophy.  The coach is going to be amazed!

Marti is making some patchwork for Mittens with Moxie.  It takes awhile to get to this point and Marti is doing a great job.

The following blocks are all from Harvest of Hope. Suzanne made some great looking pumpkins.

Kathy finished her barn and sunflower.  I could live in this bar!

Isabelle finished her acorn block.  So pretty.

Patty is working on her October Magic quilt. Once she gets the applique section completed, the rest is going to be easy!

Irene has a good start on her For The Love of Baskets.  The baskets finish as 4".

She has a gorgeous little pile going!

Aren't my girls the quilting machines!  They out did themselves this time.  The classroom at In Between Stitches was filled with beauty on the wall and at each work station.  Well done by all!

Lynn
