Sew'n Wild Oaks Class is in Session

Hello Everyone,

The 2nd Tuesday of the month means Sew'n Wild Oaks quilting day at In Between Stitches. The girls gather to work on any of my patterns, BOM's or classes that I've taught.

Barbara is working her way through Minglewood, and she finished this beautiful block.  All of the directional fabric worked out perfectly!

Barbara also brought in her Midnight Star quilt that will be quilted and ready for Christmas this year!
Love the plaid border!

Evelyn worked on her Winter's Warmth blocks.  I posted the tutorial for flying geese HERE under the Virtual Classroom tab.  It is the easiest way I know to make four flying geese at a time.  Evelyn just flew through her geese.....or goose.....whatever!

File this in your brain under "great ideas".  Evelyn uses Crystal light container for all of her quilting supplies.  They come in different sizes, have lids, and she labels them with her name and the contents.  This is an excellent idea.

Louise found the best pasta dryer to hold her strips for Heartfire. This is another great investment to add to your quilting toolbox.  The strips on the dryer look good enough to eat!

Louise's quilt is going to be spectacular in these bright colors.

My sister Gail, is making great progress on Madrigal.  All flanges sewn on, check......most of the blocks made.....check,  setting squares cut.....check.

She is going to assemble her beautiful blocks together just in time for our class next week.  I'm looking forward to quilting this one for her.  Little does she know it's going to cost her a gazillion $$$$$$'s.  Just kidding Gail.  I'm going to have lots of open areas to fill with beautiful machine quilting. I'm in love with her maroon and black colors.

Barbara is working on the center applique section of Madrigal.  The colors in her quilt are gorgeous!  So different than Gail's, and also so beautiful!  I love to see my patterns made up in different colors.  Barbara's blocks are all finished, and she will have lots to show at the Madrigal class next week.  I can't wait!

Paula is working on her picket fence for Party in the Garden.  Paula excels at needle turn applique and could teach a class.  She is so precise from beginning to end.  She has many of her blocks finished for this quilt.  Slowly but surely, her heirloom quilt will be completed and it is going to be exceptional!

Isabelle was working on pinwheels for Winterset.  She had a box of finished blocks all made with Blueberry Crumb Cake fabric.  This box looked good enough to eat also!

Isabelle has been working hard on her Party in the Garden and it's done!  She was so clever and did a combination of machine and hand quilting.  This was Isabelle's first attempt at a large, appliqued quilt!  I'm so proud of you Isabelle! Your own personal touches you added to the quilt are so special and so YOU!  This is a wonderful heirloom that your girls will treasure forever.

So, that was my day yesterday.....surrounded by beautiful quilts, and beautiful ladies.  It was a very special day.

Forget Me Not

Hello Everyone,

I attached the label to Country Charmer last night.  After I made my label in Word, I ran it off in an inkjet printer on Printed Treasures paper and then bound it with some of the left over binding.

I use the same label design on all of my quilts.  It says, "Forget Me Not" in the bouquet of flowers.  I also put my name, date and name of the quilt.

I love this quote by Laura Ingalls Wilder,

"Let us make memories carefully of all good things, rejoicing in the wonderful truth that while we are laying up for ourselves the very sweetest and best of happy memories, we are at the same time giving them to others."

The past week we made so many memories with our granddaughter, Harleigh.  She was with me when I finished this quilt.  Someday one of my grandchildren or great-grandchildren will have this quilt in their home....and the message will always be the same.....forget me not.....and the wonderful memories we shared together.

Make some sweet memories today and every day of your life.

As always,

Lynn

Christmas Quilt Along June - Post #4

Hello Everyone,

This is the last post of the day for the Christmas Quilt Along. Thank you Paulette for being our hostess.  I think we all gained a couple of pounds just reading your recipe for Nanaimo Bars!

Five mittens almost done.....four more to go.  We have to make more yo-yo's to sew on each of them.

I finished the binding on Country Charmer.  I hung it over a ladder and leaned it up against a pine tree.  This quilt will head to the shop this week and go on display until Christmas......then she's all mine!  I'll bring her home and put her to work decorating the cabin.

Harleigh and I had a great time today.  We are so lucky to have such a wonderful, bright and cheerful granddaughter.  She does have ONE fault.  She beat us at Rumikub every night last week.  Not only beat, severely trounced is a better description!  Rummikub is a great game that the whole family loves to play.  Well, we used to love to play it!

Christmas Quilt Along June - Post #3

Hello Again Everyone,

Two mittens done, seven to go!    We added a little checked cuff, yo-yo and button, then we stuck them on a tree out front and they looked so cute!

Harleigh loves to make yo-yo's.....so she is my yo-yo maker today.

Here she is tracing the backing for a mitten.  Each of the backings is going to be a different plaid.....of course!  The job goes much quicker with an extra set of hands.

Each mitten is unique....just like the mittens I have in the winter clothes closet when the little kids come to the cabin to play in the snow.  Nothing ever matches and never will!

Christmas Quilt Along June - Post #2

Hello Everyone,

Harleigh made enough pancakes to feed all the neighbors, all the critters in the forest and us!  The pancakes were filled with chocolate chips and blueberries!

Back to quilting.  After we sewed the strips together, we cut them all apart.

Then sewed them all back together again in a different arrangement.

We are making mittens.  I made some a few months ago and I thought this would be a perfect project for Harleigh and me to make together.

She thought this was very stressful, cutting very carefully around the mittens.

Check back again for more on our progress.

As always,

Lynn

Christmas Quilt Along June - Post #1

Hello Everyone,

Welcome to the Christmas Quilt Along for June. Hosted by Paulette at her blog site, Sweet P Quilting and Creations.

My granddaughter Harleigh, and I got up early and cut strips from an assortment of fabrics.

We hung them on the pasta dryer so we could see what we have right at our fingertips.

Then we sewed our strips together.

You'll just have to check back later to see what we are going to do next.  First, we have to stop and eat breakfast......that Harleigh is cooking with Poppy right now!  It smells good from here!

As always,

Lynn

It's That Time Again

Hello Everyone,

Put on the Christmas music, make a batch of eggnog, and get ready for the Christmas Quilt-a-long hosted by Paulette at Sweet P Quilting and Creations this Saturday, June 9th.  Yes, it is June already.
It is never too late to start your Christmas project planning.

I am not a fan of novelty Christmas fabric.  But I LOVE, really love to combine reds, greens and golds that have a' look' of Christmas about them.

The pasta dryer is now getting filled with strips.  Those of you that follow my blog know that some strip piecing is going to begin shortly in the sweat shop, I mean kitchen table, at Sew'n Wild Oaks!  My granddaughter and I will be a dynamic duo at the quilt-a-long this Saturday.  I guarantee that no child labor laws will be broken!

To add to the Christmas cheer, I'm also working on the binding for Country Charmer.  Harleigh and I decided this stripe would make a perfect binding for the Christmas quilt.

So dig through your fabric bins, closets and drawers, and let's make Christmas happen together this Saturday.  It is so much fun to travel around the globe and see what everyone else is making.  Something may just spark and idea and you are off to the races, making and finishing a project.

See you Saturday!

As always,

Lynn

The Monday Ladies

Hello Everyone,

Yesterday, The Monday Ladies gathered at In Between Stitches.  I'm so lucky they quilt on Monday so I get to see what they are making and most importantly.....finishing.

Peg is working on the binding on this colorful beauty.  It is gorgeous!  This one needs to go on my bucket list of quilts.

Chris has her Buttonwood quilt together.....down to the tiny little corner baskets!  (She gets extra credit for making the corner baskets!)

Madeleine is binding her wonderful 1930's quilt.  I've watched this one in all stages too.  So cheerful.

Louise is hand quilting her quilt.  So cute.

Vicky is hand quilting her quilt also.  Love the rich color.  Just look at the precision in those stars!

Lorraine has her Buttonwood quilt together too!  Last week, she brought the top to the shop, and we collectively picked out the border and added a tiny inner border.  Chris and Lorraine encouraged each other while making their quilts.  That's what friends are for!

Louise is working on Happy Owl-O-Ween.  This was precious!  I have not seen this pattern before and it's adorable.

There was so much inspiration in the classroom yesterday.  I love seeing the Monday Ladies, hearing their laughter bubble out of the room, and I enjoy watching and being included in their fellowship.  Thank you for the homemade cake Louise!!

Country Charmer is Quilted

Hello Everyone,

I've sequestered myself away the last few days to finish quilting Country Charmer.  This quilt is going to be so much fun to add to the decorations at Christmas.

I'll get the binding and hanging sleeve on it this week, and then I can chalk up another quilt in the finished column.

You can see why it took me a couple of days to get this one done.  The quilting is quite dense.

I took a break one day and went to Cloth and Quilts in Turlock, CA.  It is a great shop....the only problem is that it is a 1-1/2 drive from my home.  We were in a town nearby for our granddaughter's 5th grade graduation, so we took a detour to this wonderful quilt shop.

Great selection from the walls filled with color!  They also have quite a few plaids, checks, polka dots and stripes.

There's a great selection of threads too.

The book room is so welcoming.  Hundreds of books to choose while you curl up in one of the comfortable chairs.

The shop also has a big and bright classroom.

So if you are out and about, make a detour to downtown Turlock and visit Cloth and Quilts.  If you like antiques, this is the town for you too.  There are several large antique shops that are great for browsing.

I hope you all enjoy the rest of your weekend.

As always,

Lynn
