One For The Finish Column

Hello Everyone,

Directions done....check. Patterns printed.....check.  Binding done.....check.  Hanging sleeve done.....check.

Preparation for Grammy Squares class tomorrow........not checked off yet.  There is always a lot to do when preparing for a new class.  Lots of step outs to make to show the process.  Everyone learns differently, so I try to present the material in a couple of different ways.

I have a binder all set to go for each and every class that I teach.  I'm always adding to it, never taking anything away from it.  I'm working on my Grammy Squares binder this afternoon.  This will guarantee a good class at the shop tomorrow.  We will hit the ground running at 10am for a great, productive day of Grammy Squares.

I think I'll step out of the sewing room for happy hour now!

Sew'n Wild Oaks Class is in Session

Hello Everyone,

Another productive class yesterday with my Sew'n Wild Oaks girls.  Let's start out with a parade of beautiful Country Charmer blocks.  Jeanne is having a great time selecting colors for her blocks made in reproduction fabrics.

Judy was on a mission to get a lot of the sashings sewn on yesterday.

Judy also brought in her quilted Country Corners quilt.  So beautiful and it is going to be a wonderful addition to her Christmas decorations for years to come.

A tisket a tasket, we have a lot of baskets for Once Upon a Vine.  Patti's baskets.

Barbara's baskets.

Gail's baskets.

Gail has also been pattern testing Grammy Squares for me. Aren't this little baby blocks cute! This pattern will be ready for release next week.  I can hardly wait to get this off my "to-do" list and put it in the finished column.

Barbara is auditioning fabrics for the flowers that are going to fill her basket.  She also has one Lucy Boston block finished!

Wendy's basket is almost done too.  Somewhere along the line she lost a button for the last flower.  Her friend is going to love her gift.

Paula is making a basket for Easter from her scraps.  Nice scraps!

I know my girls get so much done because they are so organized.  Cindy has a great binder full of finished blocks for Just Takes 2 quilt.

The plastic sleeves are full of finished blocks.

She also has a swatch sheet which keeps her organized.

Irene has a lot of her mini baskets made for her For the Love of Baskets quilt.  She is persistent and she will finish this quilt!

Isabelle is building a barn for her Harvest of Hope.  Each pattern includes the pumpkin sign for the side of the barn.  It is perfect for this quilt.

Wendy is also planning ahead for Christmas by making some Mittens with Moxie.  You begin by making your own patchwork fabric, and then start cutting out different-sized mittens.  Wendy is going to add white fur around the opening.  Cute!

Marti is making her blocks for Judie's Album Quilt BOM.  Fun and easy blocks which go together quickly.

I may, just may get in my sewing room today.  My plan is to work on directions again today, and then sew, sew, sew.  I have so many things I want to do and share with you.  Have a great day everyone!

Sew'n Wild Oaks Class is in Session

Hello Everyone,

This beautiful block is brought to you by Laurie.  She is quilting her way though the Country Corners blocks.

She has a wonderful set of blocks going here, and is well on her way to a wonderful finish.

Kathy finished her little Hugh Hefner scarecrow in his attractive smoking jacket for Harvest of Hope.

Wonderful details!

Kathy appliqued her Lucy Boston block to a piece of fabric, and she'll be turning this into a hot pad.  This is so gorgeous!!  I couldn't put anything on top of it.

Laurie M. is very precisely moving forward on her Emilie Elizabeth BOM.  She is determined to keep up and not let the BOM program get ahead of her.  In just a few months, she is going to have a finished top!

Laurie also started a cute little Dresden basket with some of the new Jo Morton fabric called Emilie Rose.

Barbara has been bitten by the Lucy Boston craze.

Her blocks are going to be a beautiful table runner for summer.

Eileen is making a fun and colorful quilt with a mix of batiks and non-batik fabrics.

She had a pile of wonderful blocks.

Here is picture of what she is making that was on her iPad.
Since this was an overflow class from additional sign-ups, it was small.  So I got a chance to quilt too!  I used my time to make some additional blocks for Lil' Orphan Scrappy.  I realized I needed to add more purple to the mix, so purple it was.

Hope you have a creative day.  I'll be writing pattern directions for Grammy Squares.  You know writing directions is not my favorite pastime.....but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do!

I'm So Dense!!

Hello Everyone,

Grammy Squares is off the long arm and ready for binding!  There were times I didn't think I would ever get this one finished.

This picture of the back of the quilt really shows off an interesting pattern and the density of the quilting.  This quilt isn't large, but it is heavy.  I guess the weight of the thread and the wool batting all add up.

I'll have time to get the binding on this week and finish writing the pattern.  My sister Gail and my friend Barbara are testing out the directions for me.  I appreciate their input and good suggestions.  I'll be teaching this as a class on the 14th of March at In Between Stitches.  I will have 15 pattern testers in the class!!  I know the girls will find something that is unclear and needs changing. This pattern is going to be perfect before it's released to the general public.

Opening day for Little League is this Saturday.  This year, two of our little grandsons will be taking the field, along with our son, Coach Chuck.  We LOVE watching the games.  There are many heartwarming moments, typical of a Norman Rockwell painting.  Small town Americana at its best. So many lessons in life are learned on the field.  The importance of teamwork, always doing your best, how to be a good loser, and a gracious winner.  See you on the field!

Country Charmer Class is in Session

Hello Everyone,

Last Saturday the girls were very busy and focused in the classroom at In Between Stitches.  They created these beautiful Country Charmer blocks for you to see today.  Don't they look fabulous together! Add some sashing and we have a great scrappy quilt.

They quickly got to work cutting and laying out their cut fabrics on the block layout sheet.

Their fabric selections were all unique and gorgeous.  I was drooling over Kristi's fabrics.

The block layout sheet keeps you organized and accurate.

If the piece doesn't fit, then you cannot commit....to using the piece.

Many of the girls shopped in their stash, I mean SABLE.  Stash Accumulation Beyond Life Expectancy.  This is a wonderful scrap quilt, because that is all you need for the blocks.....just little scraps.  Now you will need yardage for the sashing and borders, but the word of the day is SCRAPPY for this quilt.

Here we all are at the end of a very productive day.  The best thing is, they are still smiling!  I didn't work them too hard. I like everyone to be successful in my classes.  I want you to be able to go home and confidently make more blocks on your own.  Although, if you do need additional help, I'm at the shop every Monday for consultations.

Speaking of "the shop"....doesn't it look beautiful.  Leslie and Melissa, the shop's owners, have created a haven for quilters.  All who enter here can't help but be happy and filled with quilted inspiration.  We are so fortunate to have the shop in our community, and we love sharing it with the quilting world.

The Winner of the Strip'n Sew Is............

Hello Everyone,

My name is Mazey and I'm one adorable 11-month-old pooch!  I know today is a big day for me because I get to select the winner of the Sew'n Wild Oaks Strip'n Sew.  First my Mom and Dad had to take me to the dog park to run off my anxiety before I selected the winner.  I take my job very seriously.

I went to the store and bought a new box of my favorite doggie treats.  Dad numbered them individually.  The names were randomly assigned a number in an Excel spreadsheet.  I tried to help my Mom enter the names, but I'm all thumbs when it comes to keyboarding.

See my green paws??  I told you we went to the park first and I brought some of the grass home with me.  Just look at all those treats in front of me.  For just a puppy, I show an extreme amount of restraint before diving in.

Hummm.....let me think.....who should I pick?

I'm laughing because I get the biggest kick out of this!!  My Mom and Dad can't believe that I'm just laying here while they are urging me, I mean begging me to select a winner.  They are BEGGING me!!!  See where I get it from.

Okay, enough is enough.  I'll select a winner when I'm good and ready and I think I'm ready.

#45 is MARIE from QuiltBee.  Marie said,
"Oh Lynn, you are such a natural! You were wonderful, and it was so nice to see all of the lovely samples that you took to show - I would have loved to see your Country Charmer in red & green. And many thanks to the ruggedly handsome Mr. Joe for helping make sure that we're all stripping properly ;)"

I'll contact Marie and a Sew'n Wild Oaks Strip'n Sew will be on the plane to Canada this week.  Maybe we should hitch Mazey up and deliver the Strip'n Sew via dog sled personally to Marie in Pembroke, Ontario.  Now wouldn't that be fun!  It's only 2,884 miles.  So my question to Marie is, "Do I need to learn to bark in French?"
