Nostalgic Christmas Top

Hello Everyone,

I've been quietly quilting away day by day to get everything finished for the quilt show in September. This quilt top came together and now it's ready to be quilted.  What started out as pillows, ended up being a quilt with only one matching pillow.  This will be a nice over-the-back-of-the-couch quilt during the Holidays on those cold winter nights at the cabin.

Here are the last two blocks.

Polka dots and plaids, what could be better?

I used 19 different plaids in this quilt!  The final plaid was used in the flange around the whole quilt. I made a serious dent in my plaid stash for this quilt.  Time to buy more!

This one won't make it to the quilting machine for a couple of weeks.  First I have to decide what I'm going to quilt.....now that is the question.

This quilt evolved from just one pillow.  I liked the block and continued making them.  Before I knew it, I had an 80 x 80 inch quilt.  Sometimes I just get carried away.  When I first saw the Sentiments fabric by 3 Sisters, I knew exactly what I wanted to make.

Today is clean-up day in the sewing room.  Time to put one project away, and turn my whole attention to Toyland. I have fabric from one end of the room to the other that needs to be picked up and put away.  I find it much easier to focus. ....oh wait a minute.....I still have to make more pillows for Christmas presents.  I don't think that is going to happen today folks!

Soon,

Lynn

  1. Yep, that's what happens to me...the "oops wait a minute" "need to finish something else" syndrome. Love your quilt and pillows!

  2. Personally, I love it when you get carried away, Lynn! I tell you, I'm getting a whole new appreciation for plaids and think of nothing else when I enter a fabric store these day! Happy cleaning!
    Cheers!

    1. I have to clean up my mess. It is just too hard to think and plan ahead if the parts and pieces of the old project are lying around.

  4. You used that fabric perfectly. The gold block fits right in, too.

    1. Joanna you noticed that the gold block made the cut! It went from outcast to front and center.

    1. Thanks Lesley. When it is going to be over 100 degress, it's hard to think of cold winter nights. But.....I know they will be here soon.

  6. Love the Christmas quilt, but even more I love how you made those pillows. I'm hoping that you'll share a tutorial on the pillows so we can make them for Christmas presents. I ordered the panel and it came yesterday-and it's wonderful. I get so much inspiration from your blog. Thanks.

  7. Brava! It really made a gorgeous quilt top. Good call on that shift of plan. And yes - plaids and dots are made for each other. :)

  8. I need to be honest...I wasn't really inspired by the panel when you put it on the blog awhile back. Shame on Me! What you did with it is gorgeous! I'm particularly drawn to the one you did in creams and browns with the light green. I find it so restful. That may be my favorite print in that panel...I'd love to spend a Christmas in a cabin in snow country! I just keep going back and am intrigued by the geometry of those borders and how they look in different combos!
And while I'm being honest...I am totally jealous that Zinnie gets to spend time playing in that gorgeous lake setting. She's a beautiful baby!
