Dawn to Dusk

 

Hello Everyone,

 

Yesterday I was at my sewing machine from dawn to dusk......it will probably be like that again today.  For the Love of Baskets is now officially a flimsy.

 



 

Luckily I purchased two more yards of the border fabric recently from The Country Cloth Shop in Angels Camp.  I needed the extra yardage to make sure the directional borders were all going in the same direction. Things like that drive me absolutely crazy and it has to be perfectly lined up.  (I guess my obsessive compulsive disorder kicks into overdrive when it comes to alignment!) 

Time for War and Peace to come off the bookshelf and hold the quilt on the railing.  I always knew that book would be good for something. Mr. Darcy from Pride and Prejudice is also giving me a helping hand holding the quilt. Now that's a hand I'll hold anytime!

It appears that I'm a fan of the University of Michigan colors.....blue and gold. Just about every football teams color is in this quilt, from the Oregon Ducks to the Florida Gators.  The blue and the gold just happened to win the battle of the border.

Today I'll make a pieced backing and use up yards of scraps.  I'll also get the binding made.  I have to set my booth up at the Amador Valley Quilt Show exactly two weeks from tomorrow.  It's going to be an intense two weeks!  Once the show is over, I think I'll hibernate for awhile.  No quilting, no blogging, only reading, relaxing and hiking in the woods.  Oh that sounds so good!

For The Love of Baskets

Hello Everyone,

 

Now that Country Charmer is almost finished, I just need to add a label, it's time to get back to the basket quilt.  Remember these?

 

I was doodling and thought I would quilt a basket in the setting squares.

I loaded some practice fabric on the long-arm and tried to re-create my doodles.  This was okay.

 

 

In one of my practice blocks I quilted this.  I loved this one.  Mr. Joe liked this one too. This is it! Since everything I quilt is free motion, they won't all look exactly like this one, but I'll try to have them very similar.  In the grand scheme of the quilt, it will be just fine.....I think.

 



I put some assembled blocks around it to get a feel for how it was going to look when it was all together......and that's when the name of the quilt became perfectly clear.  For The Love of Baskets.  That will be the name of my new pattern!

Just picture quilted hearts in all of the setting squares.  I have a lot of work to do to get this quilt finished, so I'm going to leave you now.  I have a quilt to put together, borders, backing, and binding to make.....then comes the machine quilting!

Country Charmer Quilt Along

Hello Everyone,

Is it really the 1st of April already?  It's time for the Country Charmer Quilt Along update.

I'm so pleased to show you Tina's blocks. Tina has been following my blog for several years now and I always love to hear from her. I was so happy that she joined the quilt along. Here's a few snippets from her email:

"I can't tell you how much I've enjoyed making the blocks! Love, love, love the layout pattern - it sure helps with all of those little pieces. I can't wait to see everyone else's blocks! I've not used checks/plaids and dots before so it has been challenging to use these fabrics instead of flowers, but I like the way the blocks are turning out."

I like the way your blocks are turning out too Tina. Your quilt is going to be beautiful.

My quilt is off the long-arm and into my arms while I work on the binding.  Those of you that have been following my blog know that this is the third time I've made this quilt.  So is the 3rd time a Charmer?? 

I made the first two quilts in greens and reds.  This one is totally out of the scrap basket and was a lot of fun to make.

Every color of the rainbow is included in this quilt.

I love cross-hatching for an old fashioned look.

You can get a sampling of all the different colors I used in this picture.

My granddaughter said I "featherized" the borders.  I like that word!  I "featherize" quite a few of my quilts.

 

I'm off to the shop (In Between Stitches) this morning.  Just as soon as I get home, I'll travel around the world via the Internet and look at the progress everyone has made on their Country Charmer over the past month.
