Elegant Estate Collection

 Hello Everyone,

Last Summer, Marcus Fabrics sent me Judie Rothermel's new line called Elegant Estate Collection.  Last weekend, I finally carved some time out of my days to dig into it and create a couple of blocks.

Here's the entire line.

I look at this and see some Lucy Boston blocks in my future!

I'm teaching Patchwork Math for my local quilt guild this month, and I wanted to make some new step outs.  Instead, I couldn't help myself and make some blocks from my Country Sampler pattern. The pattern is very adaptable to make 9", 12" or 15" blocks.  The blocks I made are 9". I added the teal stripe from my Hearthstone collection and the teal fabrics match beautifully.

Also, last Summer, I recolored A Ribbon Runs Through It using this beautiful line in EQ8 software.  If you missed out on the original fabrics to make this quilt, Elegant Estate is a wonderful substitute.

On a personal note, a very excited granddaughter, Harleigh, called us yesterday with some fabulous news that she and her boyfriend are now engaged!  Harleigh is the producer and editor of my videos for The Quilt Show.  We welcome Dan into the family with open arms.  He is a GREAT guy!  He's so personable and we feel as though we've known him for years.  They met in Arizona while Harleigh was attending and graduated from ASU.  They recently moved to Thousand Oaks, CA and it is so nice having them in the same state.

What a wonderful way to jump start 2025!

Laurel Ridge Fabric

 Hello Everyone,

The past week has been filled with quilty goodness arriving at my door!  My Laurel Ridge fabric line was posted on the Marcus Fabrics website, so now I can show you the entire line in all her glory.

I've been working on a new project with this line.  I don't consider myself a 'bright' person, intelligent maybe, but not a person who uses bright fabrics.  Surprise, surprise, I've enjoyed working with this line.  This is my Hearthstone line which has been re-colored in a bright colorway.  You can see it up-close by clicking HERE.

The following is a sample of some new blocks using this new line.

This block is my favorite and I would like to make an entire quilt of varied basket blocks.

The blocks are all 5".

I've also been experimenting with raw edge applique. I have to cover up the raw edge, as I'm not a fan of the unfinished look.  I got out my wool applique tools and applied the concepts to the unfinished edge of the cotton. Why not?  I love doing hand work and this is very fulfilling to my soul.

I'm having just way too much fun here!  I've been watching the Olympics and stitching my day away.

Ask for Laurel Ridge at your local quilt shop.  The sales literature is now being distributed to the sales reps who are taking it around the country.  I have absolutely no idea where I'm going to store the bolts of fabric when they arrive.  I have my eye on Mr. Joe's closet.....

Lynn

Mondays with Marcus

Hello Everyone,

Today is the day to finally show you my Mondays with Marcus project called Double Dutch Treat.  As a designer for Marcus Fabrics, I was asked to create a design inspired by my trip back to New York to meet and spend time with the wonderful Marcus staff.

Prior to my trip, I read the book New York by Edward Rutherfurd. I learned that the colony of New Netherland was founded on the southern tip of Manhattan Island and was christened New Amsterdam, the capital of New Netherland in 1624.  Brooklyn, Harlem, and Wall Street (Waal Straat) are all names from the colonial Dutch.  Wall Street was originally built as a wall to protect New Amsterdam from pirates, and potential dangers to the colony. The Bowery (bouwerij) is also a Dutch word which means farm. I doubt there are too many farms in Manhattan now! The New Netherland colony was founded in a spirit of trade, and everyone was welcome.

What do you think of when you think of Dutch, other than wooden shoes, and windmills…..tulips!  That is why I designed Double Dutch Treat. The double treat in this project is that you get to see the luscious Lanacot wools blending perfectly with my Heathstone cotton fabric line.

We took the table topper out on a photoshoot to Cooper Winery in Plymouth, CA.  Mr. Joe loves this old truck, and we always thought it was a great place for a photoshoot.  This fake little steer was our California version of the Bull on Wall Street.  I'll have you know we were warned about rattlesnakes when we attempted to take this picture.  I'm still in recovery mode for my venomous bites, and I wasn't taking any chances, Mr. Joe had to put the table topper on the steer.

To download the free pattern, click HERE.  To print the pattern, go over to FILE on the upper left-hand side of the screen, scroll down to PRINT.

I'm also selling a limited number of kits in my Etsy shop HERE. I'm sorry I will not be able to ship the kits Internationally.

Please let me know if would like to purchase the pattern only if you are unable to print it.

I want to thank the staff at Marcus for making me feel so welcomed.  My sister, Gail and I had so much fun in New York and we made memories to last a lifetime.

Lynn
