Heritage is Quilted

Hello Everyone,

It is always such a good feeling to get the last row quilted.  Then the excitement builds in anticipation of the big revel to see the entire quilt instead of only 16" at one time while it's on the machine.

Crosshatching, swirls, paisleys, feathers......it is all done.

All of the fabrics used are from the Macie's Journal by Judie Rothermel.  I'll be busy making kits for this beauty at In Between Stitches.  If you are interested in reserving one, contact the shop.  The fabrics will arrive this month.

Now to that 93" of binding on each side.  I have a feeling I'll be taking my Aleve to calm down the pain in my arm until I take the last stitch.

Having finished the machine quilting, I get to put a big CHECK on my to-do list.  This quilt is almost ready for Spring Quilt Market in Salt Lake City.  Heritage will be on display in the Marcus Fabric booth.   Now to the pattern writing.  I have to make some sense out of my cryptic notes.  Wish me luck with that!

On another note, this little puff ball had a birthday this week.

Mazey is now in the terrible 2's......or is she 14?  Whatever her age, we love her to pieces.  She is the busiest dog we've had in our family.  Or, maybe since we are older now, she seems very busy.  Every afternoon she stands at the laundry room door, willing her leash to appear.  Once the leash comes out, she starts jumping for joy and heads to the front door.  Yesterday, she played in the dog park and had playtime with her cousin Copper, our son's Belgian Malamute. It was so warm, the "kids" decided to go swimming.  By evening, she was worn out.

Mazey's breeder sent me this picture of Mazey with her brothers and sisters.  Mazey is the tiny one on the left.  She was so small when she was born, the breeder had to make the decision whether or not to put her down.  She had such a will to live, the breeder bottle fed her and she started to thrive.  She now has a wonderful life, and she is a big part of our forever family.

Whatever you decide to do this week......thrive.  Never give up, finish what you started and start today!  Don't spend forever deciding what to do.  Make a decision and go for it.  The roads are littered with thousands of squirrels who couldn't make a decision. Don't be THAT squirrel.

Lynn

Snippets of Quilting

Hello Everyone,

Here are a few pictures of my quilting progress on Heritage.

The day began with the feathered border.

This grand plan didn't work for me.  I picked it out not once, but twice.  What took three minutes to quilt, takes an hour and three minutes to rip out.

It was time to step away from the machine, take Mazey to the dog park, and think about my problem.

I finally came up with something that was symmetrical.  The crosshatching isn't showing up very well due to the angle of the sun.

Lots more quilting today.  I'll take a break this afternoon for baseball.  So far my grand kids teams aren't doing too well this year.  Maybe today will be the day to put one in the "win" column.

Soon,
Lynn

Let The Quilting Begin!

Hello Everyone,

I dodged the Jury Duty bullet and I've been quilting!!  I put Heritage out on the kitchen table so I could stare at it for awhile and try to decide how I am going to quilt it.

Late Tuesday night after baseball, I cut one of the border pieces incorrectly.  I was sick about it, because it made me "short" of fabric.  I should know by now not to quilt late at night.  Especially not to cut out fabric into the wee hours. Just one little error, and the Heritage train came to a complete and utter stop.  I put the whole quilt to bed, along with myself.

I woke up the next morning feeling pretty stupid especially when I had to send an S.O.S. to my contact at Marcus Fabrics requesting a tiny piece of fabric.  I actually cringed while I was writing the email.

Now I'm going to backtrack.  My sister Gail gave me a subscription to Daily Word which I keep by my computer and read the short, inspirational messages everyday.  Wednesday morning, the word of the day was Perspective. In a nutshell, the message said to look at the same situation with new eyes.  I went downstairs, re-measured my remaining border fabric, and figured it out.  Borders done!

My friend, and fabulous machine quilter, Laura Zmak, gave me a plastic tablecloth to lay over my quilt so I could practice drawing a quilting design with a removable marking pen.  Wish me luck quilting this entire quilt entirely using free motion.  I will do some ruler work, but the majority of the time I will be "driving" my Handi Quilter across this quilt.  It is loaded on the machine and ready to go.  I'll be posting updates over the next week of my quilting progress.

We will be taking pre-orders for Heritage kits.  The kits will include the exact fabrics you see here.  If you are interested, contact In Between Stitches by clicking HERE and get your name on the list.  The kits will run around $200.  The quilt finishes at 93" x 93", just perfect for a queen bed.

If you buy it today, I will machine quilt it for FREE!!!  NOT!
