We Can Do It!

 

Hello Everyone,

 

I lied to you.  I said I would post the winner of my Zinnie's Choice pattern on Friday.  Here it is Sunday and I'm finally getting around to selecting the winner.

 



Jess came over before his baseball game today.  I gave him the range of numbers to select from, and he chose #20, who is Susie!

 

Susie said, "Mazey, Mazey, Mazey. What are we going to do with you? I guess you like all of Lynn's quilts. You have excellent taste! I like them all too! Happy Birthday, America!

 



He may be all smiles before the game, but on the field he is a fierce competitor.  He is keeping the runner on 3rd base with a threatening stare down.  We have baseball this afternoon, in the extreme heat of the day.

 

We spent our morning at the Junior Livestock Auction at the County Fair.  This is Harleigh with Clover.

This is Harleigh with Crimson.  Both pigs did well for Harleigh and added a nice chunk of change to her college fund.  We sat through the auction and clapped for 163 pigs and their 4H or FFA companions.

We also clapped for the chickens and the bunnies.  I thought this young man had a sense of humor with the way he displayed his chickens.  If the chickens only knew.....

During all of the activities over the past few days, we were able to pack and ship 365 POUNDS of Sew'n Wild Oaks patterns to a large catalog company.  By the middle of the week, I didn't know if it was going to be possible to get all of the patterns stuffed in the plastic sleeves in time. Family to the rescue. We all adopted the "We Can Do It" attitude.  The last nine boxes will ship out tomorrow.

 

Now I'm ready to go to the baseball game and take a nap. Do you think the boss lady will notice if I fall asleep on the job tomorrow at the quilt shop?  I promise I'll try not to snore!

Country Sunshine Progress

Hello Everyone,

 

I have been focused on Country Sunshine over the past few days.  My diligence paid off with a lot of progress on this beauty.  I love this quilt and that makes it a joy to work on and finish.

 

All of the blocks are made and ready to be sewn together into the quilt.  This picture shows you just half of the quilt.

The fabrics are from Rachel Remember by Betsy Chutchian for Moda.  The fabrics combine beautifully together.  As a designer, this makes my job so easy.

Here's the anatomy of the block on my block layout sheet.  There are over 80 pieces of fabric, and this keeps me organized.  Each pattern will contain one of these sheets.  This one is missing four rectangles on the sides.  I discovered that when I began laying out the fabrics.  Yes, this block takes time to make, but it's not that hard.

Today is a travel day for me so I won't be able to work on my quilt.  Insert sad face here.  Our grandson is playing baseball tonight and we don't want to miss seeing him play.  Insert happy face here! 

Also, I have to pick up part of my monumental pattern order from the printer, and start stuffing the patterns into their plastic sleeves and ship them off. 

We also need to get back home to say goodbye to our granddaughter's pigs, Crimson and Clover, at the County Fair.

A petite and very shapely Clover, placed 3rd in her class during showmanship.

A robust Crimson placed 4th in his class during showmanship.

Many early mornings beginning at 4:30am can wear a person out.  Harleigh is a member and officer in FFA (Future Farmers of America).  In my opinion, this is one of the best programs the high school has to offer.  She learns so much about responsibility and has exhibited so much personal growth and developed leadership skills.  She has been involved in the Cradle to Grave program through FFA and 4H.  She has delivered scores of piglets, fed and cared for them for months, bought two of her own, and will now see them off to market this weekend.  It will be a sad yet rewarding day for her and the culmination of months of hard work and commitment.  After Sunday she can get caught up on her sleep for a few weeks, then the program starts all over again!

Happy 4th of July

Hello Everyone,

 

I'm going to celebrate our nation's birth by giving away my Zinnie's Choice pattern.

 

 All of the components in this quilt are taken directly from my Patchwork Math book.

Zinnie's Choice is named after our beautiful Golden Retriever, Zinnie.  She liked nothing better than running through the mountains and playing in the high country lakes.  I was making this quilt when she passed over the rainbow bridge.  This was the only one of my quilts that she stepped on, rolled on, then ran off with a block in her mouth.  She would wave that red, white, and blue block like a rodeo queen during opening ceremonies.

 

We now have the holy terror, Mazey.  Given the opportunity, she will steal every block I make.  Forget the block, she will steal the entire quilt and drag it off to her bed.

Here's Mazey all grown up.  She's not as well behaved as her sister Zinnie, but we love her to pieces!  One of these days she will grow out of the never ending puppy stage.  Year three and we are still waiting for that transformation into adulthood.

 

I will be teaching Zinnie's Choice at In Between Stitches on July 12th. I guarantee we will have a fun day of learning the techniques used in this quilt.
