A Look Back at Quilts on Display

Hello Everyone,

You know how memories pop up on you Facebook page?  This was a post of mine from six years ago that I thought you might enjoy seeing.

I was heading off to speak at the quilt guild in Sonora.  Before I packed up the quilts, I decided to air them all out and take a picture on the deck railings.  What is interesting to me is that I have designed and made many more quilts over the past six years. The collection has doubled.

Someone asked me how I store all of my quilts.  That got me thinking about how I've displayed my quilts over the years, and I went back through my archives of quilt pictures taken at the cabin.

I hang them on farm equipment and fishing poles.

Every one of my quilts gets their picture taken on this old sled.

The quilts act as insulation in my sewing room and throughout the cabin.  My sewing room is not this tidy now!

I display them on old ladders.

They hang in the bathroom.

Over beds.

I even decorate the snow!

Mr. Joe made the wonderful lamps out of antique snowshoes.

Here's an upside down toboggan with a quilt on display.

This headboard is on the front porch, and greets visitors.

Those of you who have been following my blog know that this quilt, Country Courthouse, is going to be in the fall edition of QuiltMania.  The editor planned on coming to my cabin to do a photo shoot.  Well, I say planned because her trip was cancelled due to the virus.  Needless to say, I was very disappointed, but it does save me hours, and hours of cleaning!  Maybe she will come at another time.

I display quilts coming out of an old mailbox.  I rotate the quilts with the seasons.  Those not on display, are stored in an old armoire, waiting for their turn to come out of the closet.

I hope you enjoyed the mini quilt show from the privacy of your own home, in your pj's, sipping coffee......and it didn't cost you a dime for admission.

Soon,
Lynn

  1. Yes Lynn, I've been enjoying your lovely quilts just as you imagined, in my jammies, sipping my coffee in front of the fire. It's chilly here today. Thanks for the show. Now it's time to get moving, I've got a quilt to mark. I hope you have a happy and productive Wednesday.

  5. Oh Lynn,
    This post is so timely.
I was filling out a spreadsheet, yes, you know me, trying to figure out where to hang all the quilts on full wall display...no, there aren't enough walls in the house for that.
But, stepping outside the box, or is it mailbox, to display folded or draped makes all things possible!!!
    Thank you so much.

  7. Great memories of all your hanging quilts. Makes me think of all your quilt patterns that I've made. I've a few of them over the years and the one that really stands out is....yes, the 120 baskets (For the Love of Baskets)! Thanks again for your friendship and time I've spent at IBS and your retreats. Have had some great times and hopefully more to follow. Love all your quilts!
