We Do I Begin?

Hello Everyone,

 

Where do I begin to get caught up on my blogging?  My sister Gail and I have been traveling around California for the last week attending quilting events.  I'm going to start with the most recent activity first, and slowly get caught up over the next two days.

 

I taught my Grammy Squares pattern and class yesterday at Alden Lane Nursery in Livermore, California.  The classes are held in conjunction with Quilting in the Garden which takes place this weekend. 

 

 

The girls were good sports and posed for a "Hometown Hooters" photo.  They were a "hoot". Starting Saturday, hundreds of quilts will be on display hanging from the ancient oak trees.  It is quite an event filled with so much eye candy.

 



The class was extremely productive.  Their fabrics selections were great!  So creative and so much fun for me to see great variations on my pattern.

 

The classroom in the nursery is the best place to be inspired and quilt!  It's bright, airy, large and quilts decorate the room.



 If you look closely at the blocks, you will see a frog wearing a bikini. 

We enjoyed our lunch in the greenhouse.

By the end of the day the design wall was decorated with Grammy Squares.

A couple of years ago, Bonnie attended my Once Upon a Vine class during Quilting in the Garden and brought her finished product.  Well done Bonnie!

 

Over the last week, Gail and I have literally met hundreds of quilters.  We've had a ball! At one point, Gail said she's having the time of her life. How lucky we are to be able to fill our days meeting great people, seeing beautiful quilts, laughing, receiving and giving hugs, filling our overflowing cups with inspiration, and just plain fun. 

When I started down this quilt designing road, I had absolutely no idea how rewarding this was going to be.  Quilters are the kindest people on the planet.  We appreciate you, your kind words, your hugs, your inspiration, and the love you extend to us.  We are so blessed.

Quilting in the Garden 2014

Hello Everyone,

 

I tried to capture the beauty of Quilting in the Garden in pictures.  If you haven't had the opportunity to attend, start planning ahead for next year.  It is a visual feast watching hundreds of beautiful quilts waving in the breeze!

 

The giant oak trees are amazing.

I worked at the In Between Stitches booth on Saturday and I had the pleasure of meeting and seeing so many of you.  Thank you all very much for stopping by the booth.  I felt like I was in a "hugging booth"!

The weather was spectacular.

My friend Barbara took my Chelsea Cottage class and entered her finished quilt in the show.  Well done!

Barbara also finished her Minglewood quilt, a BOM that I put together at the shop.  This is a work of love!

I love the different shades of green in this photo, from the ivy to the quilts.

The Manteca quilt guild super-sized my Madrigal pattern for their opportunity quilt.

Even the cows were colorful!

P.S.  Canine Chronicle - Mazey, the amazing wonder dog,  found a wallet just outside the gates of the quilt show.  She will willingly accept her reward in Kibble!

Once Upon a Vine Class is in Session

Hello Everyone,

 

Another busy day here at Sew'n Wild Oaks.  Yesterday I had the pleasure of being in the company of some wonderful quilters in the classroom at Alden Lane Nursery for Quilting in the Garden.

 

 

The girls were here to take my Once Upon a Vine class.

We were all set up in the wonderful and spacious classroom.  I gave some directions and off they went to their quilting stations.

 

The girls had lots of room to spread out all of their beautiful fabrics, machines, and quilting supplies.

We had lunch in the adjacent greenhouse.  Why were we eating in the greenhouse instead of outside under the gorgeous oak trees?  Well, we were enjoying rain, RAIN.....a nice gentle rain, the likes of which we haven't seen in months in our area.

It's fun to have lunch in a greenhouse.  I enjoyed my meal and getting to know some of the girls better.

After lunch I gave a demonstration of English paper piecing.  Denise soon discovered the little 1/2" hexies are addicting.

These grapes look good enough to eat.

By the end of the day, the girls made some beautiful blocks, and grapes, to decorate the portable design wall.

 

Thank you so much girls for the wonderful day.  All of you were an absolute delight and darn good quilters!  You made my work a piece of cake.

Bonnie took my Heartfire class earlier this year and brought her finished quilt to show me. It was gorgeous!  Great job Bonnie and I'm so happy that I was able to see your finished beauty.

I'll be at the long arm today working on Emilie Elizabeth.  I haven't touched her for days and she's getting lonesome.  I have to get this one finished and SOON!  Now on that note......
