Precious Time

Hello Everyone,

Yesterday was a day to play quilting hooky and go to Yosemite.  This was our view at lunch time.

Our drought has put a damper on the amount of water that normally cascades down Yosemite Falls.  But the word impressive is still the adjective I would use to describe the falls.

Bridalvail Falls also had less water for this time of year, but it was still beautiful.

El Capitan rises 3,000 above the valley floor.  I can't imagine how climbers climb this or why they want to climb it!

Yosemite National Park is just about my favorite place on this planet.  No matter how many times I go there, I always see and experience something new.  The park is my spiritual refuge.  I've been spending way too much time in front of the computer and sewing machine.  The extent of my line of sight went from the end of my nose to the computer screen.....no farther.  This is what I needed to rejuvenate my spirit for the days and weeks ahead.

On our drive back to the cabin, we passed a horrible car accident just outside of Groveland.  We found out later there was one fatality and two people with major injuries had to be airlifted to area hospitals.  This sobering sight makes you stop and think how your life can change in an instant. Shortly after we passed the accident, Pat Benatar's song Precious Time came on the radio.  I don't particularly care for the rest of the lyrics of the song, but the phrase  Life is too short, so why waste Precious Time struck a chord with me and lingered in my thoughts all the way back to the cabin.    Our day in the park and seeing the accident makes my to-do list unimportant. I'm going to make better use of my precious time.

Soon,
Lynn

  1. No cathedral can come as close to touching my soul as snowcapped peaks, and trees that stretch to touch the sky. Life is fragile, and coming face to face with how quickly it can be snatched away is very sobering. It makes it all the more important to say I Love You to those special people in your life.

  2. Thanks Lynn & "Nancie Anne" ...for the beautiful pictures and the wise thoughts. We get caught up so quickly and easily forget the important things.

  4. The pictures are glorious. I agree about precious time...we had a family medical situation a few years back which thankfully had a good ending, but makes us think daily of how fortunate we are. Definitely precious time...

  5. Such beautiful scenery - thanks for sharing. Like you, I can't imagine wanting to climb there, but it sure is pretty to look at! Life is short, that is for sure - it's good for all of us to take a step back and think about what really is most important.

  7. Lovely pictures. I am so far away from mountains and DH does not understand what it is like to miss them. I agree life it too short you need to be grateful for every moment good and bad, because in the blink of an eye it can all be gone.

  8. With those kinds of signs I would be freaking out and then take it as a lesson. I have seen signs like that and then have something bad happen to me, so I guess I've been programmed by life! Anyway, the pictures are stunning, thanks for sharing your day out with us :)

  9. Oh Lynn, that scenery can never dull - no matter drought, fire or anything else! It's so good for the soul! I'm sorry to hear about the accident. I'm sure you and Mr. Joe had a somber drive back, but felt closer all the more.
    Cheers!

  10. That scenery is positively awesome. What a shame we couldn't go to Yosemite when I was with you. Yes, seeing something like that and then the horrible accident can really make you stop and re-assess things can't it?

  11. Yosemite is my most favorite place in all the world. (I even married my 1st husband there in 1976!) I miss living so close to it and the beautiful Sierra Nevada mountains. Just looking at your pictures was like a breath of fresh air and restored my soul.
