Hello Everyone,
Forty-nine years ago today, I said "Yes" to this man, Mr. Joe. They were the most intelligent words that I ever said. We were just kids back then.
I made my wedding dress from a Vogue pattern. The entire dress cost me $35.00, a fortune back in the day. I stitched hundreds of fake pearls on the collar and cuffs. Our entire wedding cost under $200.00.
We had $200 in our pocket when we left on our Honeymoon to Carmel, Monterey, and then Lake Tahoe. Credit cards......none. We had no credit. Basically all we had was a 1967 Mustang Fastback and a motorcycle. I can still envision my Dad rolling his eyes when Joe asked for my hand in marriage. My Dad went along with the program, and he lived long enough to watch our marriage blossom and thrive.
Click HERE if you want to read the story of how we met. It's pretty funny!
Here we are, still just a couple of kids who built a good life together. Three children and six grandchildren later, we are still rather fond of each other.
Soon,
Lynn
Happy Anniversary! I still love your story and how you and Mr Joe met! That story will never get old....the boots make the story.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jeanne. The boots make for a great story.
DeleteHappy Anniersary you youngsters.
ReplyDeleteThank you Sharon. Forever young.....I can only hope.
Deletehappy anniversary - I have you beat by just a couple months and a cheaper wedding LOL - we went to the court house I in a mini dress that cost me $14.99 and Mike went in jeans - then we hopped a greyhound bus to California and his next duty station - 49 years later still together
ReplyDeleteWhat a great story, Karen. Say thank you to Mike for his service.
Deletehappy anniversary--today is also my anniversary--would of been 54 years for me--but unfortunately my marriage did not last--but I also made my wedding dress--lace and along train and I made all the bridesmaid dresses, maid of honor and flower girl dresses--our honey moon was to New Jersey to visit his brother--!! OH and another quick story, my Aunt made my wedding cake and she came in all upset that she got the red in the roses too dark--I carried roses--but--my roses and her cake roses matched perfect!
ReplyDeletehugs, di
It's fun to reflect back on the years....even down to the color of the roses.
DeleteCongratulations!
ReplyDeleteThanks Donna!
DeleteHappy Anniversary, and many more! If you only have half as much joy together as we've had reading about the intricate weavings of your quilting and personal experiences, you have lives well lived, indeed. May the stories continue. My anniversary today, too. 31 years together, 22 married. Wouldn't trade them for the world.
ReplyDeleteBJ that is so, so sweet of you to say that. As long as I live and breathe, there will be stories to tell. Congratulations to you 31 years together. That's a milestone.
DeleteCongrats. Our anniversary is September 2 and is also 49 years. I enjoy your blog.
ReplyDeleteI think September is a popular month to marry. Of course there really isn't a bad month to tie the knot. Congratulations to you!
DeleteHappy Anniversary!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Deborah!
DeleteWhat sweetness. My husband and I married in 1969 and I also made my dress - it was a Vogue pattern which had been altered to a high neckline like yours. I insisted on velvet because my aunt had married in a velvet dress. Isn't it just so neat to think of those exciting days?
ReplyDeleteI'll bet just a handful of brides make their own dresses now. I had no choice back then as money was very tight for my parents and for me.
DeleteHappy Anniversary Joe and Lynn! For your 50th, you should try and relive the boot story!!
ReplyDeleteCheers!
That would be a hoot if I could still get the boots on! How about a pair of orthopedic, sensible shoes? Would that fit the bill? By the way, I still have the boots!
DeleteHappy Almost Golden Anniversary...wishing you many more wonderful years together!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Janice!
DeleteCongratulations. Here's to many, many more years of joy and happiness together. ;^)
ReplyDeleteThat's sweet. Thank you, Chantal.
DeleteHappy Happy 49th anniversary! Celebrate your loving marriage and beautiful family! Congratulations. I love your wedding photo and your recent anniversary photo. Cheers to you both. Please keep sharing your fun loving great stories.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Madeleine. There will be many more stories from this cast of characters.
DeleteHappy Anniversary. I love your wedding picture. We are right behind you. We just celebrated 48 years in July. Wishing you many many more years together.
ReplyDeleteMany more happy years to you too, Jocelyn.
DeleteHappy Anniversary! I made dresses from some of those wonderful Vogue patterns way back then. Mother made my dress at a cost of $75 (lots of beautiful lace), and we set it up to display for our 50th anniversary this summer. She also made our wedding cake and 2 of the 4 bridesmaids dresses. Wish we still had that wonderful pale yellow 1967 Mustang that was my husband's first car. Three sons and their wives with seven grandchildren; we are very blessed.
ReplyDeleteMy husband wishes he still had his olive green 1967 Mustang too! They can commiserate together.
DeleteHappy Anniversary! I do remember reading the story of how you met and falling off my chair laughing! You are just as cute today as you were then! Wishing you many more years of fun!
ReplyDeleteIt seems like just yesterday that Mr. Joe took my boots off!
DeleteHappy anniversary to a golden couple! 50 years and still in love! Next year we celebrate our golden anniversary too! I made my bridesmaid dresses and our wedding cake! We went to SF for two days for our honeymoon!
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary to you and Mr. Joe, Lynn. Here's to many more!

ReplyDeleteCongratulations and may you & Mr. Joe have many, many more wonderful years together. So glad you both are still fond of each other! Ha!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! Wishing you many more happy years. Our anniversary will be in October.58 years. I wore a beautiful layers of lace gown which was bought. My mother said since we had always made so many of our clothes through 4-H,
ReplyDeleteetc. this was to be a special occasion. She made all the attendants dresses.
Congratulations! This weekend we also celebrate our 49th! My dress was a Vogue pattern also but after cutting it out I chickened out on the sewing such slippery fabric, and hired it finished.
