Sew'n Wild Oak Class is in Session

Hello Everyone,

 

Due to my crazy schedule this month, I had to re-arrange my class, and we met a week earlier than normal.  As always, the girls didn't disappoint, and we had a room full of quilted beauty.  Judy is adding to her Country Corners quilt block by block.

 

She's decided to add sashing which we collectively picked out on Tuesday. 

Barbara B. is going to make a Christmas quilt with her Country Corners blocks.

Barbara G. is making three blocks a month for her Country Corners quilt.

Isabelle is beginning Holiday Treat Table Runner by Laura Nownes.  You can find the pattern HERE at Laura's website.  Several of us will be making this in class next month.

Stephanie sent me a picture of her completed pillow!  Good job.  This is her first quilting project!  I think she's bitten by the quilting bug and we'll be seeing more projects from her.

Theresa brought in her completed pillow top from class last week.  We'll be seeing more from Theresa also.  She purchased additional fabric to make more pillows.  The Nostalgic Pillows are addictive.  I made so many blocks I finally turned them into a quilt!

Melody stopped by with her Harvest of Hope quilt almost finished!

Such wonderful details throughout the whole quilt.

It is computer work all day for me.  Maybe, just maybe, I'll get a chance to be creative tomorrow if I get everything done on the computer today.  That's my incentive.....a whole day of non-stop sewing and creating beautiful things.  Think Autumn related things......maybe tomorrow.

There's a definite feeling of Autumn here in the mountains.  When Mazey and I took our walk yesterday, the falling leaves gave her plenty of things to chase.  She also loves pine cones.  I'm sure she thinks they are the best toys in the world.....spiky little balls falling from the sky.  It doesn't take much to amuse her.   As you go about your day, I hope you are amused by the simple things Mother Nature gives us in full abundance.  Life is good.

Nostalgic Christmas Pillow Class is in Session

Hello Everyone,

 

Yesterday I taught my Nostalgic Christmas Pillow class at In Between Stitches.  I so enjoyed meeting all of you and spending our day together.  The girls, and Bill worked hard all day long!  As you scroll through the pictures, it's hard to believe that the same pattern created so many different and unique variations.

 

Vivian finished her pillow and gave it to her mother immediately after class!  I wish I could have witnessed the gift giving.

 



There are going to be some great Christmas presents wrapped under trees this year!

Most of the group started with panels from Moda's Seasons Greeting or Sentiments fabric line.

This is a great use of panels or motifs which are easy to fussy cut and place in the center of a pillow.

Stephanie is making a very special pillow for her sister.  Stephanie's niece is playing the main role as baby Jesus in the Christmas play.  She printed a picture on Printed Treasures paper, sized it to the proper size, started adding borders and then double flying geese.  This is going to be a wonderful gift.

 

Several of the students completed all of the components to make the pillow, and they are ready to start assembly.  Click HERE for the tutorial which shows you how to make the double flying geese.  The lesson is also located under the Virtual Classroom tab at the top of my blog. 

 



We had geese flying in and out of formation all around the room.

So what are you doing today?  Whatever it is, I hope it involves creativity.

P.S. Here's an update on my granddaughters first cross country meet last week.  Emily is surveying the course here prior to the race. This looked very daunting to me!

She finished strong!  We were so proud of her.  She will run in her second race this afternoon.  We will be there to cheer and support her every step of the way.

Canine Chronicle

Hello Everyone,

 

Mazey turned 5 months old last week......how time flies.  She is turning into a beautiful, furry kid.  She can also be a handful when she chooses!  She has found her voice.  She has always been so quiet until recently.  I swear if she could read, she could burp the alphabet !

 

There are lots of events on my calendar this month, next month and November.  For me, this is just the start of quilt season.

I'm going to be the featured artist in Georgetown, CA at the Needle Nellies quilt show on September 20th.   There is always so much to do before a show and my preparations begin in earnest this week.  My long arm is in the same space with my laser printer, so both machines will be working at top speed....that means me too!

Then on September 25th, I'm teaching Once Upon a Vine at Quilting in the Garden.  If you haven't been to Alden Lane Nursery for Quilting in the Garden, it's time to treat yourself to a wonderful event.  It is a visual feast for your eyes!  The display of quilts is phenomenal.

 

 

 

On September 30th at In Between Stitches, I'm teaching Nostalgic Christmas Pillows.  This is a fun class. I usually make several pillows and have them ready for holiday gifts.

So that is my September schedule along with watching the grand kids soccer games, cross-country track meets, and cheer leading Pop Warner football.  AND I have to squeeze in some quilting along the way.

If it's Tuesday....It's Sew'n Wild Oaks Day

Hello Everyone,

 

I had a full classroom of creative gals at In Between Stitches last Tuesday.  They were working on projects from every season of the year.  Here's Barbara's colorful and bountiful cornucopia for Harvest of Hope.  

 

This is Suzanne's cozy haunted house for October Magic. I would love to walk down the pebblestone walkway into this cute little home.

Here are more of the finished parts and pieces for her quilt.  So colorful and precise.

My sister Gail is working on her blocks four at a time that she will incorporate into For the Love of Baskets.  She has quite the stack of them made and I wish I'd taken a picture of the pile.  She is using the block layout sheet as an aid to fabric placement.

Kathy finished her adorable little snowman for Toyland Tree. Kathy embellishes each block with her special little touches.

Barbara is also making For the Love of Baskets in a Spring/Summer colorway.  It is going to be so fresh and cheerful.

Azalia is making the star for the top and corners of her Toyland Tree.  When you get to the stars, you're getting close to the finish line!

Judy worked on her pumpkin for Harvest of Hope.  Judy loves to select the fabrics for her applique....and you can tell.  She will be working on all of those little grapes next.

Barbara is in barn building mode.  Love the silo fabric and her roof.  Perfect!

Suzanne was smitten with the little hexies and she made some for herself.  The hexie on the left, is built around a 1" center.  The one on the right, is built around a 3/4" center with 3/4" strips finishing at 1/4".  So darn cute!  She's starting a collection of strips, and is going to work on them when she feels like it.

Isabelle is starting her Harvest of Hope pumpkin.  It takes time to get all of the pieces traced, and prepared, but once they're done, let the stitching begin and the block comes alive!

Peggy has just two more side boarders and her Nostalgic Pillow in her rich selection of fabrics is almost finished!  The pillow is for her Mom and Peggy is sure it will be on display in a place of honor.

I'm telling you the classroom was buzzing with creativity and inspiration.  My girls are finishers, highly productive, and the nicest people you would ever want to know.  I'm so fortunate to call them friends!

Checking Off My List

Hello Everyone,

 

I've been very quiet for the last couple of days because I've been sewing up a storm.  I had two whole days to myself to work on my projects.  The first project was finishing the borders on Heartfire......check.

 

Another project was finishing up a batch of Mittens With Moxie......check

.....double check.

My third project was finishing three yo-yo trees.......check.  I cut an old (fake) pearl necklace apart and glued them to the trees.  I actually wore the pearls in high school.  I wasn't doing my impersonation of Laverne and Shirley....I WAS Laverne! I still have my necklace with an "L" on it.  I drew the line when it came to poodle skirts! My mother said I looked like a feather bed tied in the middle.   I'll leave you with that visual and move on to the next project.

The Season's Greetings center is the same in each pillow, yet they look entirely different.  The first pillow is more of a Winter pillow and will work for St. Patrick's Day too for my Irish friend.

The Preview Party hosted by In Between Stitches is this Sunday at the Purple Orchid Inn here in Livermore.  Heartfire will be there along with pearl-studded Christmas trees, and mittens.  Maybe I'll wear pearls too!

I have another whole day to myself, no classes, no decorating, just a whole day of TIME.  What a wonderful gift to myself.
