Quilting Imposters on Facebook

 Hello Everyone,

My blood is boiling!  I shouldn't let this bother me so much, but it keeps happening.  I was notified by an anonymous reader (thank you) that a picture of my Heritage quilt was posted on Quilting Free Patterns site on FB.  The "poster" or imposter claimed her dearly departed mother made this quilt.  That is total BS!  I'm alive and well, and I'M NOT HER MOTHER!

This picture was stolen from my blog post from 2018!  Click here to see the original post.  I immediately reported the post to the administrator of the group......to no avail.

Then later in the day, this appeared on the same site!  A picture of one of my Country Charmer blocks.  It was originally posted here in 2013.

My point in pointing this out to you, other than the fact that I'm really p***** o**, is that if you click on the link associated with the post, you set yourself up to have a virus invade your computer.  These people should be drawn and fat quartered!  DO NOT BECOME A MEMBER OF QUILTING FREE PATTERNS!  There, I feel much better now!

I guess I'm going to have to put a Sew'n Wild Oaks watermark on all of my pictures that I post on my blog.  But, I would have to go back over thousands of images since I started blogging in 2008.  Sigh.

Be careful out there.  The Internet isn't all is cracked up to be when it comes to getting legitimate information out in the universe. Be careful where you click.

Soon,
Lynn

    1. It is just so irritating that scammers are using legitimate quilt designer to further their own agenda and possibly bank accounts.

    1. Thank you, Carolyn. I'm going to become this groups worst nightmare by getting the word out about them. Not all of the posts are bogus......but if you read them carefully, you can spot the frauds. If the link contains a "bit.ly" do not click on it.

    1. Yes there are, Donna. All of the bogus posters on the site say similar things like, "My mother died and I finished this for her" or "My aunt would be so proud of me" or "What do you think?" It is so frustrating.

  4. Well I looked, took some deep breaths, and typed my 2 cents on the two posts and responses until my fingers cramped. You were much more articulate than I. What a travesty.

    1. I was biting my tongue the whole time! Thanks for jumping in and commenting, Paula. Everyone needs to do that to make it less profitable for the scammers.

  5. I've come to the conclusion that Facebook in general is a fraud, there's no oversight and complaining about an issue like this immediately sets you up to receive even more of the same. And the imposters go on their merry way, until the day they have to face their Maker, and that day will come.

    1. You are so right. Trying to complain to FB is pointless.

  6. Hi Lynn. I joined this group a few months ago. I love looking at quilts and thought this would be a good place to find new ones. But I have seen several people on there sharing stuff that I know wasn't theirs. I am thinking :The nerve of some people". I am sorry to hear that you were one of those people. I am going to get off of there. I don't like it when others take credit for something that isn't theirs.

    1. Thank you, Joyce. Before you remove yourself from the site, report the post as Fraudulent. If enough people complain, maybe, just maybe there will be some repercussions against the scammers.

  7. I reported the posts to the Admin and also reported the posts to FB as a violation of community standards R/T Authenticity of the claims. May be pointless but I'm glad I did.

  8. I would be irate, too. Such imposters should be prosecuted. Your designs are beautiful and show your diligence.

  14. Argh!! This infuriates me too!! I cannot believe that any real quilter would do this. This is when we wish we really did have "quilt police"!

  15. so very sorry this happened to you!

  16. That is crazy. Definitely infuriating. There is another person/group that shares free quilting patterns, which take you to their page you have to go through to get to the pattern someone else is offering for free. I don't know if there is spyware or a virus attached, but you do have to go through their page and ads to get to the pattern.

  17. Oh, man!! I’m so sorry this keeps happening to you, Lynn. How infuriating that “supposedly “ nothing can be done? I don’t believe it for a minute. Maybe we could all bombard Mr. Suckerberg himself, until he cries uncle and does something.
